may be stupid but......processing my stolen bike grief

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Ok, so yea, it's been over a month and a half since my bike was stolen. (still feels like I lost a limb. I actually have even gotten emotional when I see people riding their bike espcially commuters. I miss commuting I miss riding period. It's an awsome stess reliver. NO RIDING = STRESS BUILDUP. I do have the "crapbike" It's the one I had in Highschool. But I just can't settle into it. -my old bike had 26 tires and the crapbike has 24 in. to me that means more work as if it's not a workout riding a MTB on the road.
I can't afford a new bike, but I ....... man this is just so dumb. I feel like crying even now. I miss riding so much! Anyway. I am using a friend's road bike for the Bike MS. I doubt I'll finish but I am commited and will do my best considering the circumstances.
I did find a bike on craigs list. if you have any opinions, please share. I do want to ride again desprately, but I don't want to buy another crapbike.

I'm really sorry your bike was stolen. What is the bike on craigslist? What kind of bike did you have?

    Bicilista, thanks for the validation

Catriona, the bike on craigslist is listed as a vintage Schwinn 10 speed road bike. but I looked at it again it looks BIG and I'm only 5 feet nuthin.
I am saving for THAT bike, but can't really ride in the meantime. the crapbike keeps screwing up nomatter what we do to it. I think that's the worst, that I can't ride.
My old bike wasn't anything special but It fit me and she could always get me where I was goin. It was a Roadmaster Mountian Furry. She was a bluish green. I bought her for $15 at our Senior Thrift Center about 5 yrs ago she's taken me on great irrigation road and trail rides and to and from work.
Kinda funny talking about her is kinda good therapy.
I'll keep you posted as to my new ride when I do get him, or her.

Searching craigslist, there sure are a bunch of roadmaster mountain furys on it across the country... maybe one of them is close to you & fits:

It looks like roadmasters were possibly from walmart, because they've got some roadmaster mountain sports on their website and while not $15 like your last one, they're not too expensive:

It's not stupid. I think more than any other sports equipment our bikes become "part of us", part of the memory of the ride. Especially when they fit and especially when we're five foot nuthin' and few bikes fit.

When a bike's stolen it's like taking a part of you.

I still morn my old Trek namesake but have largely given up hope of ever finding it again, or even a similar model. I hate bike crooks Instead focus on the new ride and yes, do check the thrift stores. They can be a great source and you will find your next bike.

This is a bike I found in a thriftstore for KnottedYet. I knew it had potential when I saw it and it turned into an incredible bike:

I totally understand your grief. My very first bike, a K2 MTB which I absolutely adored to pieces, was ripped off right before I was ready to take it on a vacation. It is like losing part of yourself, I can still remember how devastated I was for a long time. At the time I was also not in a financial position to replace it very quickly, and so I can totally relate to wanting to cry seeing others zip by on 2 wheels.

Mine was stolen in a different state ( the Las Vegas police fully said they didn't expect to recover it at all as Vegas thiefs are apparently the 'best') so I didn't have much recourse. I don't know your circumstance, but I wanted to let you know that a girlfriend of mine had hers stolen OUT OF HER GARAGE, YIKES, and she had it registered with the city. The police later found out that it was pawned in a town 45 min south of us, the owner had entered in the reg. # one digit off. Sadly that sort of thing does happen.
Maybe something you might look into.

Anyway, I'm really sorry for your loss.

    thanks

I really appreciate your empathy and encouragement. The search continues. As far as the Bike MS ride next weekend I'm gonna have hubby do what he can to her (I might even rename her something nicer) and do what I can. I'll co as far as she'll take me and if I have to ride in the van, so be it. I will try and not give up. And that goes for my bike search as well. I did call on a dimond back mt bike but it's $75 and I just can't do that right now. so coins are goin in a piggy bank with dollar bills It's kinda fun saving when you see the level rise and not worried about the $ammount. When it's full I'll take it to my bank. they have a free coin thing and I'll just turn those into bills and do it again and again until I get enough for THAT bike.

    It's far from stupid.
When stuff is stolen it is a violation.

Best wishes finding a perfect bike.

Hi Bikingnurse, Are you doing the MS ride in Idaho? If so, are you going to have any extra time over here before the ride? I've got an extra bike or two that might work for the MS ride. They are mostly vintage Mixtes but the MS ride I think is on the CdA trail which is mostly flat. One is setup as a roadbike and moves along quite nicely. Plus you'd be really styling on a Mixte. Let me know if your interested. bikerHen
