It's not stupid.I think more than any other sports equipment our bikes become "part of us", part of the memory of the ride. Especially when they fit and especially when we're five foot nuthin' and few bikes fit.
When a bike's stolen it's like taking a part of you.
I still morn my old Trek namesake but have largely given up hope of ever finding it again, or even a similar model. I hate bike crooksInstead focus on the new ride and yes, do check the thrift stores. They can be a great source and you will find your next bike.
