In the Stable: My bikes: 2002 Bianchi Boardwalk with racing slicks, 1990-something Trek MTB with low miles. Hubby: 2004 EZ Racer Speedster recumbent + 1993 Schwinn MTB (with extra high cushy handlbars). Daughter #1: Jamis WSD MTB (she will only ride if it's to the MALL), Daughter #2: Mongoose MTB and Schwinn STINGRAY (Like the one I had in 1970).

Other hobbies: Camping/RV-ing, former horsey-lady. My kids think I love our dog more than I love them (**laugh**)

Biggest Lie---None---I'm from FedEx--I don't have time to lie!!

Fait accompli: Put on our own Passover Seder in 2005....got dinner on the table only 17 minutes into the holiday meal---read Hagaddah at FedEx warp speed, entire evening wrapped up, dessert and coffee, within 2 hours!!

What's in your stable? Trek 7000 mountain bike, Terry Classic, Serotta Fierte

Fastest speed on a road bike? Where? When? 40 mph coming down Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park .

Biggest lie you’ve ever told? Lying takes waaaaay too much energy.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? Not yet but I’ll work on it!

Most memorable moment on my bike? One of the most memorable moments was a recent bike ride in Tuscany, Italy. Particularly enjoyable was biking back to Florence after a 2 hour lunch in the countryside (with much wine).

welcome to the board Traveller! Mt Desert Island?? it was the last place my ex took me and I LOVED the island - hated the time spent with the ex! ROFL

I vaguely remember renting bikes and riding the carriage trails there - does that sound right?? He was such a jackazz when it came to riding I may have blocked that memory out! (yet another reason he's an ex! )

If it wasn't for your winters I would've loved to have moved there!!

Thanks for the welcome, CorsairMac. I've enjoyed this message board. Great stuff gets posted here and I've found the board to be full of very supportive, enthusiastic cyclists.

I'm bummed that your memories of MDI include a not so great experience with your ex. If you come back to visit let me know and we'll go out for a great ride around the island. There is some awesome cycling here.

Just as you mention, there are 50-plus miles of carriage road trails that wind through Acadia National Park. No cars are allowed on them but you do have to watch out for folks on horseback! I tend to spend more time on the Park Loop Road (asphalt) than on the Carriage Roads (dirt/gravel).

Winters aren't too bad except that we don't have much daylight. Because we are on the ocean it doesn't get as cold here as it does elsewhere in Maine. But I like the cold weather so it suits me pretty good. When we decent snow, the Carriage Roads are just the ticket for some great cross country skiing. And when there is no snow there is always ice skating across the many lakes and ponds!
