Halloween Costumes

Alright, this is a little off topic, but I don't think I've seen it in here yet... What are you going to be for Halloween?

I have to work this coming Saturday. For some reason, All State Choir and Orchestra is that weekend, the 29th so I won't be able to do anything till almost eleven, but daylight savings time will work in my favor. And, I'll be close to home, so I'll just go out in the town that the show is in. But, I need a quick change costume.

I had considered just getting a pair of fairy wings and walking around with a can of Red Bull. But, then I'd have to explain it all night (Red Bull gives you wings).

I was considering wearing my bicycle gear... I don't have cycling shoes, I just wear tennis shoes, so I'd kinda be a Fred, I suppose... But, I bought some costume makeup, so I may add some road rash to my legs and arms... I got some fake stitch things too for my face. I'd probably put some leaves and a couple twigs in my hair... I'll straighten it for work, and bring some hair wax to mess it up with. I don't know if I'll wear one of my jerseys, and just put some dirt on it, or go to a Good Will to get a shirt to rough up. I might just get some stretchy gloves, cut the fingers up and rough them up instead of doing anything with my cycling gloves. I want to do something that would indicate what caused the "accident"... may get a stuffed dog and attach it to my ankle to indicate that it got me during a ride. I dunno... I'm looking for accuracy and a little bit of amusement.

What I understand is that there are two definitions. One is a person who spends a fortune on bike stuff but still can't ride. The other is someone who is totally utility/transportation when it comes to the bike. I think the second reference is what is brought to play with the tennis shoe reference.

Hey Hammer, Try this if you to have some fun with messing up your jersey. I was in a play this summer that had a crazed cyclist in it. The guy who played the cyclist ran over his jersey with a muddy tire, and got a great tire track across his back. It was perfect for the play and he got a lot of laughs. BikerHen

By a fred... and I'm still not totally up on the lingo... I don't spend a fortune on gear, well, for me I feel like I am... but I don't have the complete look. So, mostly I go with the utilitarian approach.

I don't want to screw up my jersey TOO much, one's only a $20 basic jersey and the other is like $38, but I can't keep tossing that cash away. I can probably do something that'll wash out.

So Fred is intended as a derisive label of someone whose reasons for biking are not racing or recreation. Or someone who doesn't follow trends in biking. Or a judgement of someone's skills as a rider.

anybody have ideas for a costume you can wear on a bike? We have a halloween "ride" this thursday night that you can dress up for....

Everything I seem to think of sounds dangerous though, lol! I thought of wearing my karate stuff but then had visions of my belt falling off and getting caught in the bike and..... **shudder**

Archibella, in the 24 hour race I did this summer some people liked to dress up while they rode: I saw a pink pig (blow up suit), clown, dude in a business suit and a twinkie. Of course, you could always be a bike cop, Lance and Sheryl, school girl, or use Corsairs avatar and be an old fashioned bicylist.

You could always go with a themed jersey and build off it. A friend and I were pirates on my tandem for the Cinderella a couple of years ago. I got the idea from the jersey and we just added to it - mustaches, swords, bandanas under our helmets etc.





So, like you could get this jersey


and add a grass skirt over your bike shorts.

I've done a Halloween bike ride for the past three years. SO much fun! One does need to think about costume ideas, tho', because it's not warm temps in Minnesota (where the ride is) at all! I go with a group and we do themes each year. Our first year, decided at the last moment, was a pirate theme. Fun, but nothing great. The next year, we went as Harley riders, all in black leather. Came close to winning the costume contest, but no go. Last year, we won! We did a Batman theme....... we had a Batman, Robin, and 4 Catwomen in black vinyl catsuits. Very warm to ride in and and surprisingly comfortable. So how do we top that this year? Probably won't........... but it will be fun trying! We are doing a Christmas theme this year. We have Santa, his elves, and his "Ho, Ho, Ho's." Yes, I am one of the "ho's." Red outfits trimmed in white glittery faux fur. All in good fun, of course. The actual "ride" is rather brief, about 16 miles, but we'll ride earlier in the day to get in some extra miles and kill time till the haunting begins...... Coming up this very weekend.

Halloween has been one of my favorite holidays ever since my oldest son was 10 years old and informed us he was going to be in the halloween parade and he ended up winning a gold medal in his age division. Talk about getting into character! That was 17 years ago, and he loves it still, as do I.
