I'm used to virginia. There's like 200 special plates. Most of them are an additional $10 a year in the registration fee. Some are $25 a year and the organization or university that it's for gets $15 of that after the first 1,000 plates are sold.

You just get on the DMV website or go to the DMV and get the plate through there - most of them don't require membership proof or anything like that, but the purple heart or police group or whatever ones do.
