    Yet another running thread...August 17-23

How goes everyone's running? I went out for another HOT trail run today (it's in the low 90s and humid). It was pretty good, considering the weather. I think I startled someone who was walking along the trail as I was coming back to the parking lot--she said "whoa" or something as I passed her. Guess I should have called out "on your right" before passing...oops!

Well I have run 2 mornings in a row. Both at the crack BEFORE dawn (5:30). With the sliver of a moon the stars have been very bright and nice to see.
Only did 3 miles each day. I am at a 12 mmp--slow, very. But still HOT. Yesterday we had some breeze d/t the left over tropical depression out in the gulf. Today, stagnate and humid! I think it was only in the 80's!
My focus and energy remains on swimming (tri soon) and long biking on weekend (bike trip soon). But I have put in some miles.
I can't wait til the first cool morning! I have a trip to CT in Sept....hills and cooler AMs--that will be nice!

I took a very early run this morning (around 5:20) so as to avoid the heat! It was actually really pleasant out. I did a 6.5-mile run in a nearby park...mostly flat road and some trails.

Both of my pre-50k training runs this week have been savored. The last was this morning a comfy 5.5miler. I beat the rain home, but am disappointed that this morning was the morning that apt. management decided to turn off all the water in the building to fix some plumbing. Yep, I'm still sitting here in my post-run dew and not quite sure what to do about it.

In other news: I am feeling pretty confident about the race this Saturday, just a little concerned that my body is trying to do it's "usual" of attempting to get sick during the taper. I've had a pretty constant headache for the past 5days and my sinuses arent' quite 100%. Will be hydrating a lot and sleeping more leading up to Sat. that's for sure!

I'm very pleased with my treadmill workouts. I'm feeling stronger, and my heart rate seems to be adjusting. I've had some soreness on the outside of my right knee the last few runs--probably the IT band, but I've never had issues on the right side before. I thought it might be my shoes (I think they're a tad big), so I used my old shoes today. Still some soreness, but not as much as the last run.

I'd skipped running so far this week because I've taught aerobics Sunday, Monday and I'm teaching again this afternoon - so hard on my calves! This morning I went for an easy 5 miles just to get some cardio and work on my form.

Just noticed something strange this morning-- I go out for my run very very early, come home, shower, and then take my rather elderly dog out for his walk. I let him take the lead on determining our route, and lately he's been consistently starting out on the same route I just ran... The wonder that is a dog's nose!! Maybe he just wants to find out what I've been up to while he was waiting patiently at home...

Left the house at 4:45 this morning for my 11-mile run. 2:02:32, about 3 minutes longer than my 11-miler 2 weeks ago. This was not surprising, as I just completed a weeklong 454 mile bike ride with 35,000 feet of elevation gain. The ride finished Saturday, and even though I *feel* fully recovered, in reality my legs are probably not 100% yet. In particular, the last 3 miles of my run were difficult. Heavy legs, and I was unusually hungry, despite fueling myself consistent with previous long runs. I've been really really hungry since Sunday; again, my body is wanting more fuel to recover from the long ride. I probably should have added in an additional 100 calories on my run, as it was the last 15 minutes when I felt like i was starting to bonk.

Urlea - sounds like you're well prepared for your 50K! I hope your cold holds off. Wait until *after* the event to get sick! Is your event this weekend?

I have been struggling with a knee injury for several months, which was meniscus and patella tracking related. Yesterday was the first time I have been able run more than 3 miles since March, with a 3.5 mile run. Small accomplishment but hopefully I can only improve from here!

Ran 3.5 miles tonight. Was 97 degrees. Ran with my friend (former elite runner) and her dtr, who was at my pace...Sloooowww. We followed "speedy" out, then she took off. Caught up at 2 miles. Her last mile was 6:45min. I can only hope I was in the 10 min zone, as my heart rate was the highest it's been all summer. Was anaerobic longer than I should have been. Skipped my favorite spin class tonight to run. Sometimes it's good to be pushed.

Susan- Yes, the ultra is this Saturday the 22nd! My running buddy & I leave tonight at midnight to make the 9+ hr drive to way South Dakota. Packet pick-up & the pre-race meeting are mid-day tomorrow so we wanted to be sure that we would be there in time for that. I'll be sure to keep you ladies posted as best I can, I'm guessing the only means for me to get word out will be on Twitter as I probably wont have internet access, but you never know.

I got out for a horrible, no good, ugly 2.75 miles tonight. So much for the planned 4! My legs felt like they were trudging through mud the whole way and I couldn't seem to locate my comfort zone. The lingering 90 degree temps didn't help the cause much either.

Susan, I see that you're registered for the 24 hour at ROFTT. I'm surprised you're running too. I'll be seeing you there. I'm doing the 12. I'm not registered yet, I suppose I should get on that.

Are you doing another event that involves running too? Sorry if you've already explained yourself many times... I'm just fresh back on the forum. Been away for a while.

Yet another hot humid day today! I did my half-hour run around the neighborhood at 8:30 this morning but was still extremely hot.
