The fastest I've gone so far is 172 mph.

You'll do just fine then! You're already doing 50.

    Thanks V -- I hope so!!

I haven't really been practicing back to back rides on the weekends. I'm going to start doing that this weekend & do my long ride on Saturday & another ride on Sunday. Yikes!

Mighty Mire - YES!! Didn't know I could go that fast, haha!!

Veronica - I think it would be neat to rent one but my guy thinks they should be renamed "divorce machines." He rides at an average of 27mph and I ride at 15mph and have little bike handling skills yet - maybe we should wait a while before we jump on the same weapon of death! (if the ride didn't kill us, we'd kill each other!)

Hibiscus - I'm with Veronica on this one - you can do it!! If you can ride 50 right now, you'll be doing great by then!! I believe you can!!

    Wedded bliss

Talking of tandems, earlier in the year I was in France with some friends and we met up with another couple who were totally hilarious.

They were both in their 70’s and had just bought a holiday cottage in France. They both drank like fishes – I’m talking 3 or 4 bottles of wine a day , and argued like cat and dog.

One evening we all went out for a meal and they were just making digs and being rude to each other all night, and didn’t care less about the whole table watching them. Wilma, the wife told me, when they’re at home they always avoid each other and never sit in the same room.

But….. I’ll get there eventually… they both rode their tandem regularly and had done for years. Jon, the husband said it was the only time he ever got any peace because Wilma was on the back and he couldn’t hear what she said!

It was hilarious – this old couple, who never even sat in the same room , rode a tandem together and loved it! To top it off we also found out Jon’s drink of choice on the bike was wine which he kept in his water bottle.:

    LOL!

Well, I am happy to announce that I had my fitting done today, the guy didn't charge me -- , and he says I need narrower handlebars, which he has ordered. In the meantime, he has tilted my handlebars toward me slightly which does make the reach seem much easier. This probably belongs on another thread but I'm enjoying the conversation here.

Thanks for the moral support guys -- I'll let you know if I fall over at mile 149 or cross the finish line. LOL
