Glad to hear you haven't abandoned cycling- most people assume that you will after a serious injury.
Make sure you keep on your PT and look at accupuncture, sports massage etc. My shoulder injury was over a year ago and I still have at least 6 months more PT to go- shoulders take time.
As for getting back on the bike. I made sure I rode rides with very little downhills (I crashed downhill) and on routes I felt comforatble doing. Make sure you start short and build up as it is amazing how much your shoulder is involved in cycling. And its OK to be scared, time and more cycling will take care of that.
Way to go for your Dad- most parents would be saying "cycling is dangerous" after seeing you hurt but you must have a great Dad who can see accidents are just that, accidents and can happen to everyone.
