OK... because if we spend money on bikes we want to spend money on bikes (not on storing them)... and because we live in NZ where anyone can fix or do anything with a piece of number 8 wire...

This is what we do (not unlike SingleTrackMind)... in the shed we had several old handle bars (curved. not straight) from various unusable bikes, which we have attached up high on walls (unlined, so there is room for the bike to hang without touching the lining - coz there is none!) or on rafters, and the top bar of the bike slips over those.

We have also got some strong brackets, wrapped them like cladding in old past-repair tubes (coz there happens to be a few lying around) and used those to hang the frames from. (Old tubes make excellent tie-ons when transporting bikes too...)

This way the wheels are not getting squished on the floor and don't complain about getting numb, the bikes cannot be knocked over, they cannot be crashed into, they are not "in the way" and each has its own spot, so they never argue with each other about being in the wrong place. Most important in a stable of mountain bikes, race bikes and TT bikes for 7 humans!!!

We have an old coat rack from some restaurant that instead of a line of coat hangers now has an old set of handlebars on it, and is ideal for bike maintainance, coz you just hook the top bar of the bike on and then fiddle with wheels, chain, clean the bike... whatever - brilliant!

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
    "I will try again tomorrow".
