My son is coming home from his deployment a month early! He will be back in San Diego next Sunday.
Now, we have to convince him to actually come visit us... all set up with apartment with GF, etc.
Both my kids are now cohabitators .

    That's wonderful news.

You should fly out there, Crankin! What a good excuse for a trip to San Diego!

I might fly out, but he hasn't been home in a year and a half. We went out there last Thanksgiving. I've spent a ton of time in San Diego, actually, since my family moved there in 1979. My dad and brother are still there.
The GF is being a wee bit protective of time with him. He wants to bring her here, but not sure if she can take time off. So, he said he might come the week before Labor Day.

That is great news! Isn't his enlistment about up? Maybe he will decide to go back to school. It is a lot easier to be a student with a girl friend than a marine with a girl friend. Of course, just about anything is easier than being a marine.

Newfsmith, his enlistment *would* have been over 2 years ago; he re-enlisted to get into Intelligence. However, it has worked out. He got some good, real world training, and, I hate to say, a whole lot of money for re-enlisting. He is set. And, the added years have matured him and now he has had enough... so he will be out on 6-1-12. The GF just got out, actually a year yearly because her knees are shot from previous sports injuries and she can't run anymore. She's working at the base pool and going to school at the local community college until Scott finds out if he is staying in San Diego or going back to Virginia. She's very smart and they are made for each other. She wants to stay in San Diego and go to San Diego State, but has looked at schools in Virginia/DC. Scott likes the weather in California, but he doesn't really like the "people," etc. He sort of had talked about going back to AZ, and going to NAU, in Flagstaff when he gets out, which is a much mellower place.
Well, I have absolutely no influence over this! Since he did 2 back to back deployments in a war zone, he probably will have only one more and it won't be in a war zone. There's a possibility that he might end up being a military attache for an ambassador, in which case they would get married, so she could go with him. Then they could be students together when he gets out.
I guess I have become more accepting of this since that day you came to my house for a ride!
