Ran 2.8 around the cemetary, in the fog. It was eerie. A little sluggish after 2 hours on the mountain bike yesterday...

Ran 3.2 miles today, with a big long hill coming back. I'm okay on the hill, just get a little winded. Going out at 5:30 the humidity was so thick you could taste it. Very sweaty run!

Ran close to 4miles w/ my new shoes on Tuesday. I had over 400miles on my last pair, so it's nice to have a little cushion back, especially w/ the 50k coming up.

Went out to a state park near Fargo for another trail run yesterday. The trails were little difficult to navigate, but we got the mileage we wanted thanks to the use of my Hubby's Garmin. 9.15 of trail, beat the rain & a setting sun, it was a very comfortable 9. Beautiful wild flowers. Next time I'm taking the camera along.

So Indigoiis & I can't be the only ones running this week! How are the rest of you doing?

I did intervals with speed work and pacing on Tuesday.

Ran about 5 miles last night with the baby in the jogger. Nice and slow. It felt good.

Ran yesterday... hills... 93 degree heat and humidity. Whipped me big time. Should have done 6 miles, only made it for. I was toast at the end!

Kept a 9:30 mm though, so happy about that. Even with some walking at the end. HA!

Jogged at noon today, 88-90 degrees, 3 miles. Too hot, just beginning to overheat when I returned to work. No shade, desert running, lots of lizards. After 5pm has been to uncomfortable when the temp goes over 98 degrees. Still, nothing feels like a run does......

I am thinking I might stop running until the late fall. My hip just won't quit hurting, I don't like running in the heat, and my cycling mileage is not where it should be. Since I just finished PT for my neck, I really don't want to start all over with my hip; have a feeling my slightly elevated RA factor may be reacting to the running.
Well, at least I am taking a break.

I think breaks are really smart, sometimes.

I agree! Listen to your body it will tell you what you need to do.

Since I tend to turn a deaf ear to what my body is telling me, I've had to have a plan for my running season each year. Taking late fall & winter mileage way down to 10-15miles per week. Body responds well to that.

KSH You are getting speedy!! Keep that up.

Crankin... Rest can be a VERY good thing!

I got a stress fracture during my marathon in May... so I took 6 weeks off, no running.

And you know what? I'm back- faster than I have ever been. It's amazing. And oddly freaky.

I think those 6 weeks off were a huge part of me being so successful right now with running.

Gosh, before the stress fracture I was doing a walk/run combo for anything over 3-4 miles... and now I have run up to 6 miles... with around a 9:30 mm. My time before was close to a 11 mm w/the walk/run.

Last night I went and rode 1 hour of hills on my bike... then I ran 3 miles afterwards. Ran with a 8:40 mm pace.

I think a ghost of a runner has entered my body and taken over. HA! This just isn't ME! Well, it wasn't me.

KSH - I know that feeling - I just started mountain biking and while there are times I am completely terrorized by a wee rock or an old dropped log, I do have these moments where I feel like I've been possessed by some "athlete" who actually knows what she is doing. I am trying to get more of that.

But rest is totally crucial to that. Overtraining is just bad all around.

I had two little surgeries this summer so far and was not allowed to ride or run for about a week after each. So I had a slow start to my program but indeed after that rest week I was faster/better and more confident.

So rest and dream of runs to come!

Anyhow, today it is threatening lightening / downpours so I did 10 sets of 5 flights of stairs in my building at work. Half run, half walk. All sweat! I don't know what that equals in mileage.

Well, I have also been faithfully doing core work and upper body weights for about 6-7 weeks, so that can keep me busy, along with riding. I also have been letting my yoga slide. I can only do so much.
If I go to my rheumatologist and tell him about the hip, he will not be happy when I tell him I've been running since January. I am pretty sure it's not a serious thing like a fracture, because the pain is all over the place and cycling does not make it hurt any more than it hurts at rest. I am going to do some serious icing and stretching and re-evaluate at the end of September, or before. I know when my internship and classes start, it will be easier to run than ride, but I sort of wanted to hit 3,000 miles this year and I am only at 1500.
Well, it's a long time until December.

I just got back from a week at Lake George in NY, where I did a grand total of one run (we were doing a lot of swimming and water skiing). There is a trail that runs next to the lake in the campground we were at, so I ran part of that (and walked quite a bit of it--some areas involved climbing over/between rocks). Time to get back to more running now...

I've been a total slug all week, so today was just a free run to remember what it feels like.

Knowing it was going to be a short one with no speedwork, I took the opportunity to try something I've been hesitating to do. I took the orthotics out of my shoes, and padded the original insoles under the head of the first metatarsals and big toes like they tell you to do for Morton's foot.

During the run, no arch pain and no knee pain. I did have a bit of achilles pain, but no more than I usually have with the custom orthotics.

Post-run, it does seem like it stressed my calves - a lot of achilles tightness and pain. But no arch pain, no knee pain.

We'll see how my arches feel in the morning. But right at the moment I'm thinking it's a step in the right direction, but the padding needs to be even higher to get my ankles into neutral. I got a Stick this afternoon because I just can't get into my calf muscles near the joints as well as I'd like with my opposite knee - played with it some while DH drove home from the store. Felt good.

    4.5 miles.

Who the heck put all those hills there?!

Didn't kill me, musta made me stronger. (the last half-mile was my cool-down)

Back in the orthotics today, had too much trouble with my Achilles after Friday - although no arch pain, so I still think there's potential in that approach, just maybe I need to adapt, or put a taller pad in, or something.
