If the towpath is muddy the fenders and the rider and socks would be muddy. His socks are sparkling white.

I looked at the towpath, it didn't look muddy to me. It was likely the section he did the night before, then you can jump over to pavement for 20 miles. I'm very observant and no dummy. Well, for the most part anyway.

I have to admit there is something in his eyes that activates my warning antennae.

Those are stars. Like when Davey Jones would see a girl and his eyes would go all wacky
