I had one on my knee cap and the top of my tibia (I think). It was tender for about 6 weeks, but didn't hurt unless I put direct pressure on the spot (i.e., I couldn't sit on my knee). It didn't hurt walking, though - so not sure what to tell you there.

I am thinking that you might have had a small bleed into the muscle next to the shin, the tibialis anterior. This is the muscle that pulls your foot up as you walk to keep it from dropping. It takes time for that blood to reabsorb into the body and that can cause the bump and the pain. Hope it feels better soon.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that may be a possibilty as well. My leg below the bump has become discolored and the discoration is is moving toward my foot. I was talking with some of my co-workers (PTs (I am an OT) )and they had no idea...one wanted me to go get x-rays but I don't think anything is broken. I hope within the next week to be back at it. I would love to go out for a run or walk but it hurts way too much. Oh well, could be worse. I will just take some naps and enjoy my down time while it lasts.

I had a similar injury--there was discomfort from Sept until the following May.

Aggravated, no doubt, by the fact that my dog always hit that eaxct spot on my shin when jumping up onto my bed. It hurt for so long that I finally adjusted my behavior and moved my leg whenever I saw my dog coming.
