Bummer! I had it on the calendar but had to work today. I would have loved to see how fast my hubby could ride with a tummy full of doughnuts! (And I LOVE cowbells--the best marathon routes had people on their front porches with cowbells)

Just completed my third Tour de Donut. Let me set the stage. 30 miles, 1,200 riders, 3,600 glazed donuts. It's a timed race with two rest stops, 10 miles apart. For every donut you eat, five minutes are deducted from your ending time. What a fun day! There are riders of every age and size and bikes of every style. The event is held in Staunton, IL, and residents line the streets, yelling, cheering and ringing cow bells to cheer you on. I haven't seen the results from this year, but I think that top eater last year ate 24 donuts! Afterward, there's a street fest, complete with a rib cookoff. What a fabulous time! If you're ever in this part of the country, check it out!

What a hoot. Does anyone end up with negative time at the end?
I've never heard of it!
Funny, this got me thinking about a ride we do that we lovingly call the "Coffee Shop Ride". It's about 35 miles through some pretty busy roads, shopping centers, commercial areas.... and there's either a Starbucks or a Caribou coffee shop every 7 or 8 miles. We don't stop at all of them unless it's cold... but we do drink some coffee and plenty of Starbucks cookies or muffins on that ride
Wouldn't it be fun to have a Donut & Coffee Shop ride?

This has me laughing hysterically - I have family in Illinois, so I will happily aim to ride this next year!
If you're ever looking for a fun ride in the St. Louis area, check out what we call our three ferries ride. The three ferries are the Grafton, IL, ferry, the Golden Eagle Ferry and the Brussels ferry. It's 30 miles long, some hills, just a beautiful ride. If you want to make it longer, ride into St. Charles, MO, and grab lunch at the winery. It's a fabulous way to spend a morning! Here's a link to the ride. http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united...23825255077442
That is AWESOME!!!! I love to have a donut or two (or 24), so that sounds like a BLAST! It's the only way I'll ever get time taken off my ride.![]()

We did one of these near Houston, TX. It was a great time, but I didn't eat many donuts for fear of barfing! That was kinda a bummer, but otherwise, lots of fun - even with hubby's two flats....

My record number of donuts is a measly three. Before I began biking, I thought biking and donuts seemed like a heavenly combination. That lasted until I attempted to eat my first donut on my first tour. Sounds great in theory, but it's not so great in practice!
Yeah, I once had a bacon omelette that sounded delicious, in theory. That was a long 16 mile long ride home! (The Dutzow Deli on the Katy)

I am riding an impossible MTB ride tomorrow. It is an a$$ kicking...only 7 miles, but it has rocks, rocks, rocks, and a few rocks thrown in. Plus sand. And climbs. However, my favorite donut shop is on the way. The conundrum...to eat donuts before doing this butt kicking in the probably 95 degree (albeit shady) weather...and suffer the consequences? Or forgo the donuts for a healthy bowl of rice chex and skim milk and diet coke?
I cant get them on the way back, it will be closed...and they won't make it in the hot car.
Hmmm. Risks, risks.
