I can't believe I did it. I have a perfectly fine Trek 2.3 WSD 47 cm that is a little over a year old. I like the bike, but I've never been 100% comfortable on it -- the only way I can describe it is a feeling of being "cramped". I've also had some hand/wrist and arm soreness during and after rides. I recently saw some photos of myself riding down a hill and thought I looked like I was too big for the bike. I'm only a little over 5' tall and I have pretty short arms and legs and very small hands, so a 47 cm seemed a reasonable size for me. I've had several fittings on the 2.3, but none of them ever suggested the bike was too small for me.
I started thinking I might feel more comfortable on a little bit bigger bike. So, my LBS let me take out a Trek Madone 4.7 WSD in a 50 cm. They put my pedals on it, and off I went. OMG! I could not believe the difference. I felt immediately like I had come home!! It is so comfortable, and of course an upgrade in lots of ways from the 2.3.
Anyway, she came home with me! I have to swap out the seat (cannot stand Bontrager!!) and get one of my beloved Selle San Marco Aspide Glamour seats in White. I'll have to get my Speedplay Light Action Pedals in White or Silver and I'm thinking about white shoes.

I don't usually name my bike, but she's so purty, I may have to... I'm thinking "Angel" because riding her is heavenly!

Hey, that looks just like my bikeYou have my bike's twin!
Welcome to the Madone Club! I hope you enjoy your bike as much as I'm enjoying mine. I was initially disappointed that the 5.1 and 5.2 were a little out of my price range, but the disappointment faded quickly and I just LOVE the 4.7. You made an excellent choice...it's a great bike. And very pretty too! I'm sure you'll love yours even more after you've taken her out on some good long rides!

So glad you found a comfortable ride. Let me know how you like that compact double--I'm thinking of switching my 2.1 over.

Wow...very pretty!!
Your story is almost like mine. A friend of mine gave me her old Trek 2300 WSD 47 cm about 2 years ago. I started riding it a lot last year. Because I hadn't ridden a bike in over 17 years, I wasn't even thinking that it didn't fit me. I ended up buying a Madone 5.2 WSD 50 cm in March. Since I was was spending so much time on my bike, I thought I deserved something new and something that fit properly. Like you said, the difference is amazing. I'm so glad to hear that you are happy with your Madone. You are going to love it!
I am now thinking about getting rid of my old Trek since it really is too small for me and buying another Trek as either my primary commuter or a back-up to my Madone.

Mmmmm nice. An all white bike will always be on my wishlist.
Glad you found something that felt amazing. That was the best part of my bike search, when I finally hopped on something that FIT.
YAY! I'm glad to hear the madone is loved - I just ordered my 5.2 wsd! I sure hope there are some people at Trek NOT in France right now so they have time to get mine ready to ship!!
Anybody played with Trek's project one? It's a REALLY cool program (when it works - it's a little buggy)
