Bikerhen, in addition to the great advice above, I'd say just be prepared to have moments where you feel emotionally overwhelmed by the crowds. It's hard to imagine it until you've done it, but I personally, had envisioned an experience very similar to the apple century I'd ridden the year before (which I know you have done as well) The reality is that it's more akin to the atmosphere at the mall the day after Thanksgiving.
