If you're thinking of shopping for a road bike, I'd say you're ready. Don't let a less than enthusiastic individual in your LBS discourage you. Based on his attitude and his seeming lack of interest in getting the bikes that interest you - it sounds like you should expand your shopping to other bike shops.

Don't let anyone discourage you - but buy a bike in your own time. Make sure to go for some test rides, and I'd recommend doing a bike fitting too. Have fun dreaming and shopping!

Thanks. I kinda thought that I'd use the winter to try some roadbikes on the trainer in shop for a bit... Maybe be able to test them on nice days. Then in the spring see if I hit my hybrid hard again, and depending on how nice Uncle Sam was to me and how my financial situation is otherwise... get a roadbike. OR wait until the end of next season and try to pounce on something at a reduced price. But that's tricky to get the right size frame sometimes.

I got a hybrid bike and then got a road bike about 6 months later.
I didn't realize that I would get so into it and want to go longer distances.
I don't regret getting the hybrid -I can lend it to my non- bike owning friends for a ride and I can take it on vacations ect... for rides with the kids.
