I just don't do sniff tests. Of anything. Period. If in doubt, I wash, whether it looks clean or not, or throw it out. But why is it after Dh sniffs something unpleasant, he has the need to call me over to prove to me how stinky something is? I've already witnessed his reaction and believe him wholeheartedly, yet he adamantly insists that I share in the experience. Is that a guy thing? Or is there something wrong with him? I suspect the latter.

It seems he almost enjoys the stench of a bad smell. He'll go back and re-sniff! It's disturbing!

I forgot the key for my lock today, so my bike is in my cube. I'm resisting the urge to sniff the saddle!! I can see sweat stains on it, so I'm guessing, it isn't gonna smell like roses!

Okay, after all this I just had to smell my saddle.

I'm none the worse for wear.

I wonder if (besides the issues that spring immediately to mind) it has something to do with how you sit on the saddle. If your -ahem- smelly parts are far enough from the saddle, then less of a problem.

One of my riding buddies, who's not even particularly thin, sits so high on his saddle that I can literally see through his cut-out when I ride behind him. I'm guessing his saddle does smell like roses. Not that I've checked.

All three saddles (two mine and one bf's) smell more or less like new saddles. They have all been ridden for at least a season, one for about three years. Maybe the cover material makes a difference? These are all synthetic leather (Fizik microtex).

would the Original Poster please tell us what kind of saddle that was? Leather, plastic, foam?

Mine's leather. No smell. But I can bet a padded seat that doesn't dry out after a ride could really smell, ie. hot garage (see the camelbak thread ). I know my jerseys don't smell pretty after a ride. And my sister has forgotten to wash her gloves--wish I'd been there for that accidental sniff.

I agree--a no sniff policy is best--but you guys broke me down

Ohmygod! Ive been recovering from a sprained neck and inflamed shoulder tendoncombo plus chronbic fatigue attack AND mutiple colds( and its too damn cold to ride outside or Id be crying my eyes out missing my cycle!)- and this cheered me up!
Apparently, from what I am told( as I dont get too close to most cyclist men, Im too slow!) alot of guys dont wash their shorts as much as the girls.
