Possegal, can you eat seeds? I've recently started carrying a little Glad container of raw sunflower seeds. They're very satisfying and are a MUFA, so they're one of the healthy fats, and all that.

I'm three days off wheat as of tonight. D*H eliminated wheat and dairy from his diet in February and lost thirty pounds in two months. He was riding a lot, too, and had just gotten an iPhone with the calorie tracking app, so he has become a bit obsessive about tracking everything he eats and all the exercise. He did a 42-mile ride this afternoon and probably lost five pounds or something ridiculous. It's just falling off him. He's lost two whole bikes' worth of weight. His average speed has gone from 18mph to 20+.

Me, well, I'm enjoying long rides every weekend, and I've noticed that I can keep my heartrate higher longer without feeling like I'm about to have a heart attack. My speed hasn't increased much lately, though. I'm on a mountain bike - a 12-year-old Palomar GT. Lavender with white trim. I also have a Schwinn gear bag on the front in which I carry a couple of pounds' worth of tools, a spare tube, my cell phone, a small first aid kit, my arm warmers, and some tissues. Oh, and my keys. Not exactly aero.

So really, off wheat, exercising quite a bit, the weight should start falling off any second now, right? I want to get under 240 before we go to Hawaii on Saturday.

    Somebody please say yes.

Does he still eats rice, oats and other grains? Or did he eliminate gluten all together?

He has rice rarely (when it comes in a sushi roll), but all other grains are gone.

And thanks, jobob. The only thing fitting looser on me so far is my watch.

Also, if you can muster a lot of patience and make your own hummus, I pop the skins off the edamame before blending. Makes it creamier. I also add a little ground cumin.

Reesha, I did have a reading of near diabetes 2 --1.5 yrs. ago. I was retested, and supposedly it's false. But I plan to get retested on a better test later for more accurate results.

So rather than wait around, I reduced my intake of white rice or bread. When I have rice, I try to have brown or red rice.. So rice intake these days..is about once a wk. or so. I have less than 1 c. of oatmeal with abit of milk for breakfast nearly daily. Then I go cycling.

When I eat too much rice and bread at the end of the day, I feel "wrong". I do still have pasta, but "lighter" tasting pasta which tends to be certain Asian pastas.

So I still have sushi, I just don't eat it as often...and when I do, it is a "treat" to me which means I make sure it is freshly made sushi.

I discussed this with a sister who is a doctor and who lost 50 lbs., which included jogging, change of diet and reduction of white rice, bread, etc. Eaten less or eaten earlier in the day for you to burn it off.

Missed a couple of weigh-ins because I was travelling (visiting family in Sonoma, then riding in ALC), but it's back to real life again. Weighed in this morning at 211.6. Not a huge improvement, but I'll take it. I'm just too good at re-fuelling on big rides.

Men kill me... it's like that commercial on TV where the man gives up soda and shrinks to a twig and the woman gives up soda and the dog loses weight! My DH can give up just about any one of a trillion bad things he eats and drop weight effortlessly. I have given up anything/everything that is "bad" for me and cannot lose a pound! I'm not really over-weight, but 10-15 pounds off would look and feel so much better - but it stubbornly will not go.

Men kill me... it's not fair.

Ain't it the truth? Those commercials kill me!

My H is the same way. He says "I think I need to lose some weight" and bam...10 lbs gone. Did he do anything? "No, not really". Ugh!
