Lost: clothing question

A piece of trivia: Well, it's about underwear --I think.

I was perusing a Japanese-based clothing company that has gone global.
In their sleepwear (?) or underwear section, there were lots of selections for "boy cut" (?) briefs.

Ok, boy cut brief is understandable for swimwear/beachwear. I don't get it..the boy cut briefs as underwear (if that is how this stuff is worn)?

Or maybe there's a cultural subtext that I am not understanding.

oh no- I swear that men kept women down for centuries by not allowing us "boy cut" or "boxer" briefs. That's all I wear. No seams, just a comfortable piece of smooth cloth. They are beyond awesome.
I also saw 1 (and only 1) episode of "what not to wear", and they were highly recommending women's boxers or boy cut briefs - because they don't show panty lines.
If you like to wear underwear under bike shorts, they are the perfect ones to wear, for the same reason.
REI used to make a nice pair, but they've stopped. Jockey makes a pair, but they are too brief. They are getting harder and harder to find, and I'd like to make it my personal gift to women everywhere to try and not let that happen.
So, go back to that site and order a few pairs!!!

I have been wearing Hanes or Fruit of the Loom boys sized boxer briefs for years. They're a lot cheaper than the womens.

I saw Stacey London (What not to Wear) on Oprah or one of those shows and she mentioned the boy briefs for the no-line look. I have a few pairs of boy-cuts but I get panty lines with them

I love the look of them, but I find them to be "too much" fabric. Guess I'm weird.

They don't fit me right, either. They ride up my leg, feeling quite uncomfortable and definitely show panty lines. I'm a thong person...

It's just a style of underwear. Google "boy leg brief" and you will find a bazillion examples. The leg openings don't have elastic and they are a little longer than regular briefs or bikinis.

Methinks I would find boy cut briefs, as 'too much fabric'. I'm not totally thrilled to wear cycling lycra shorts/long tights under rain pants because of 'too much' fabric and elastics around the waist. But I'll do it just to keep warm or be abit drier.

Crankin, your underwear of choice, would be blasting stereotypes for 60+ groups.

You can tell that I wasn't totally clueless about boy cut briefs, I just never paid attention to their proliferation and choice over the past few..decades?

I must admit I don't pay attention to see if panty lines are showing through. I am more conscious if the fabric of tucked tops is showing through pants below the waistband.

Each wk., I feel like an anachronism.... no car, no microwave at home until I was 42, no home cell phone, not camping until 32 yrs., haven't got my Facebook profile yet, now finally understanding about boy cut briefs at 50.

I love microfiber boy cut briefs! They are nice and thin and don't show panty lines if you can find some that really fit well. Cotton ones on the other hand are too bulky to wear under anything that isn't loose.

Am bamboozled. I feel so ordinary....me, it's bikini briefs. Not string, about 1-2 inch depth at waistband. Just so I don't have layers of elastic bands binding me same place in my waist.

No elastic at all - not at the waist or at the legs. The fabric itself is a bit stretchy and fits close enough that they don't need any. The brand is "Barely There" and the name really fits - soooooo comfy.

I like the look of those boy shorts, but they're much too high. I think I have a low waist because I can't seem to find any underwear that doesn't come up to my belly button. I don't like to lean over and have half my underwear show under my jeans.

Can't wear thongs either, it's like a permanent wedgie.

Shooting Star, I am not in the 60+ category yet .
4.5 more years until I get there. But, yes, my non-cycling friends go crazy with my choice of undergarments, cycling wear, and "What, no underwear under those cycling shorts?"

Boy cut briefs are just too much fabric for me. I think it's my big thighs and saddlebags.

I do have a couple of thongs that are really comfy and wear them under my nicest tight jeans. I wish I'd bought a few more pairs when I had the chance, but now I don't know where to get more. Thongs are like any other underwear - when they fit right, they disappear; when they fit poorly, they're really uncomfortable.

These are my everyday panties - cheap, comfy, breathable, they fit me well and don't show a line unless I'm wearing something really tight. IME, under something very tight, only a thong will do; under everyday clothes, any panties that fit well don't show a line. (Under skirts, I don't wear underwear under pantyhose - I'm conditioned from cycling shorts, I guess. )

I do have a friend from the gym who's maybe 65 - since I know her from the gym I see her in her underwear (and less) in the locker room all the time - and she wears nothing but thongs and sexy bras. Good for her, I say.
