Yesterday we drove up to Truckee to ride Emigrant Trail with SadieKate, who was celebrating her "35th" birthday. Yellow joined us - her last California ride. Bubba, Thom and Robblog rounded out the group.
What a great day and a nice trail! It's about 11 miles long, ridden as an out and back - a great trail for strong beginners with enough technical bits to keep more advanced riders happy. There are places where you can choose to catch air or not and a creek crossing. Sorry Sarah - you were blurry in the photo. The trail crosses several ridges. None of the climbs/descents were super steep. And it is all single track! Not something we have much of around the Bay Area. The trail ends at Stampede Reservoir. A lovely place for a bite to eat.
I guess I have to get me a pair of these.
Nobody crashed and the local bike store was having a great sale. Too bad it's just so dang far away!

I've practiced this turning 35 thing 12 times now and I might have found perfection yesterday. I might have to try again next year to be sure! Maybe my big air picture will be clear.![]()
For those who want to know, the trio of TE girls is, left to right, me, Veronica (aka Princess Zippy) and yellow. I also have no explanation as to how all the boys ended up in yellow. Must be a chromosome thing.
Thanks for the pics, as always, P Zip, and for making the long drive.

Oh 12 times... and I was thinking you'd finally gotten around to celebrating it for the first time. Or maybe it was the 25th anniversary of turning 21! (Now that's a depressing thought.)Originally Posted by SadieKate

I'm glad you all had a great ride. That is one of the best trails I have ever been on. I've only done it once, but it is on my list of my best rides, most memorable moments on a bike. What a great way to celebrate your birthday!
I'm so glad you had a FUN birthday ride, SK! Looks like you guys had nice weather. Thanks for posting the pics, V!![]()
Looks like it was a beautiful day! Thanks for sharing the birthday pics![]()
wow, what a gorgeous area... just look at those hills in the distance... beautiful!
Thanks for identifying who was who! So fun to see pics of everyone... nice to have faces to put with the names...![]()
Sadie- HAPPY B-DAY! Looks like it was a good one... how fun that you all drove up and rode together... nothing like a bikeride with friends!![]()
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".
Here's my late contribution to the discussion...
What does this say about the riders (and who did what?):
TWO riders took their shoes and socks off and waded across the creek-of-very-slippery-bottom
i think TWO riders attempted to ride across and made it no more that a few feet
and i think TWO riders walked across with shoes on and survived with wet feet for the remainder of the ride
BTW, it was an awesome way to close out what will become known as "Yellow's Kalifornia Years".

Happy Birthday SadieKate!! - yeah yeah I'm late but goshdarnit on 10/02 I was in Pecs, Hungary and I couldn't find a computer. I found wine, and food, and beer!!.......heck I even had chips and salsa in Budapest, but no internet! *shakes head sadly*
Sounds like you had a grand and glorious day - which is as it should be!!
Happy Day my friend!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

That's right! You're a sister LibraChix. Did you do anthing fun in addition to the trailwork?Originally Posted by Irulan
Terry's Ride Like a Girl socks - I have guys who want my socks. Terry has made them in different colors each of the last two years, only has them made in a small size and limited quantities. I have numerous times expressed my disbelief that they limit the availability of the socks in such a way. They don't seem to get it.
I have a precious pair of the old "Girls heart Dirt" socks. I asked Defeet to someday make socks that said "Guys heart Dirty Girls." We'll see. Their return email was very positive and included an offer of free socks if they used the idea.
Happy Birthday, Irulan, LBTC, Jobob, Spazzdog, and ??? Need to go look up the upcoming October b-days.

Do we also know that "No rider with wet feet wore 'Rides Like a Girl' socks"? Or maybe, "Three riders with wet shoes live in CA"? Hmmm, I need a pencil.
