unfortunately.... no rain in site!
i saw on the news today that agoura hills was under voluntary evacuation.... i have a friend who lives there.... i hope she... her family... and her animals are safe! (they are they type that will take and keep their animals with them!)
i was glad to see that they have an animal evacuation center set up!
also saw on the news where several people/families slept outside rather than in the evacuation centers because you can't take animals in the centers! that would be me!!
*sigh* fires scare me... none are close to me right now.... but that doesn't mean one can't start *just like that*...

I am hearing of all the fires and hoping all is well with all!!!

I'm way south of the fires but I gotta say I sure don't "assume" anymore that the CDF and firefighters will always win and put them out... so far it's only 5% contained according to the news and one home has burned but no deaths...
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".

All we have been getting in the news "down under" are updates on Kitrina... I had no idea fires were raging on the other coast

They get fires there every year RoadRaven. Mudslides in the rainy season and fires in the summer, but they keep rebuilding....
Never could understand it myself...

Unfortuntely, when the Santa Ana winds come it is sooo dry we always have fires. According to what I am hearing on the news it looks like most of the fires are in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. My heart goes out to them and just pray everyone is safe, including the animals.
I'm in South Orange County in Trabuco Canyon so they aren't near our area, but we have had our share down here too.

I'm in the southern part of the San Fernando Valley (Sherman Oaks), about 15-20 miles away from the fires. No bike riding for me this evening - the sky is very smoky with ash dusting the ground, even here. No way my lungs could handle it.
The LA firefighters are amazing and will do everything they can to protect the houses (3 houses burned now, and 5% contained). Alot of the area is mountainous and undeveloped and they'll let the fire burn in those areas, keeping things pretty smoky. The big problem is that it rained so much here last winter that the brush is super thick.
Just another reminder to have your evacuation plans and emergency kits all prepared, wherever you are!
