I am totally in awe at all of your responses and support. I can't thank each of you individually for your messages, but please know that I have read them all and appreciate the hugs, the sharing of your own stories, and the heartfelt responses. Saying "I love you" to those you love may seem trivial at times, but as someone said, "later" may come sooner than we think.
It will take some time for this wound to heal, but with the support of my family and friends, and people like you who are so kind to a complete stranger, it will be easier to manage.

I can't imagine losing another one of my siblings. It was scary when my oldest sister got diagnosed with tongue cancer. But it also showed how really close we all are as we all rallied around her.

SheFly - oh, I am so sorry
It feels terrible, I know, I lost my only brother suddenly 3 years ago. Suddenly becoming an only child packs a doozy of an emotional punch too, even though you're an adult. It took closer to two years before I really accepted this as the new normal. Hang in there!

I'm only now just reading your post. When I saw you last week I had no idea that your brother had died. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. During your many hours on your bike I know you'll do lots of laughing and crying as you think of him. My thoughts are with you and your family. Margie
