Talking I can finally commute!!! No excuses now.

Woo hoo! I just landed a job 3 miles from home. My current job is almost 30 miles away. I tried commuting to my current job, but it took 5 hours total, and even a partial commute was just too difficult.
Now, not only can I commute by bike (or walk if I want to), it's a job that I kinda consider a dream job. Instead of 40 minutes in the car on the highway fighting rush hour traffic, I can spend 15 minutes on my bike getting healthier and breathing clean air. I'm so excited, I can hardly wait to start my new commute when school starts back up in August. No more wasting $100/wk just on gas, no more putting 500 miles on my car per month just going to work, and best of all: no more polluting the environment. Most all the places I frequent are within 2 miles of work/home so I can run all my errands on the way home from work.
I just wanted to share. I'm so thrilled!!!!
    Yippee!!!!!

That's terrific! I have the same situation, school is within 2 miles, everything else within 5 and it is wonderful! My car sits in the garage week after week and only comes out once in awhile.

V- I'm going to be a librarian (goodbye high stakes testing in 5 subject areas each year, goodbye P/T conferences and report cards). I have to take the test and pass it to get the certification on my certificate, but that's no problem, and I can work on my masters while teaching. I'm SOOO excited.

Uforgot- I hope that's what I'll be able to do (leave the car in the garage). I will probably drive during a lot of the winter when it's well below freezing b/c the cold really irritates my asthma and I get bronchitis easily, but the rest of the school year- my Bike Friday will be my car.

I've never been as sedentary as I have been the last two years when I've had this current job so far from home. I'm ready to lose the 20 lbs I've gained in the last 2 years and turn a new leaf in my career.

T- Congrats!! I gave up hybrid commuting for my new job but I am so happy with my new company it was worth it. Looks like you will be happier and get to commute- WIN! Does this mean you get a commuter bike? If I only had to go 3 miles I would so have a Townie or some sassy Mixte but hey that is me.
