We don't have a car and don't intend to get one so it's easier for us to justify. I only use 1 of my bikes regularily. The other 2 bikes have been used in the past, each for several years. I just have them around for times when regular bike is being repaired or when I have guest staying with us, to invite them for an easy cycle.

If you don't have huge loans/bills to pay and are living within your means, plus if you've had your current bike for many years with alot of mileage on it, then it's alot easier to make the decision.

And taking time to check out speedy road bike models would help. And you know that "checking out" could mean several months...which means saving up more money for no.2.

I'm already at that stage! I started with a lot of internet research over the past several months, then just going into the LBS for various other things and looking at the road bikes while I was there, then on my most recent trip I talked to one of the guys in the shop but didn't do any test riding. That'll be the next trip.

I figure I can drag this process out for a long time, but with a trip to Ireland and Norway coming up in a couple of months, I'd have a hard time justifying the expense.

It'll happen. I need to make DH read this thread so he can see that I'm not crazy to want more than one bike!

I have one road bike which I love

... and one mountain bike which I don't ride much

Maybe one day I will have two road bikes, but now I don't see the point... my next purchase will be a horse

    1 hard tail mountain bike
    1 full suspension mountain bike
    1 carbon fiber road bike
    1 steel road bike
1 cross bike (soon to be sold to my sister in law)

So, 5 right now; but I will soon only have 4.

    Hubby has 6.

    TOTAL 11 in the house.
