That's the nature of this place in recent months, the same conversations over and over and over and over. I'm sure we've all done it from time to time, but it seems like TE membership has grown at a fast rate lately and it's become constant. Another forum I frequent has a stickied READ THIS FIRST/FAQ post that very explicitly recommends that new members use the search function because chances are their question has been addressed before. The question is-- what's worse? A handful of gazillion-pages-long threads that get resurrected frequently, or a gazillion new posts every week on topics that've been discussed multiple times? Seems to me that the latter makes it harder to keep up with new threads on new topics.

Not that I wanna come across as a cranky nit-picker, but I'm just sayin'...

I personally don't use the search feature on any of the forums I belong too. I would rather start a thread which happens on a rare occasion, and drum up new ideas and comments from new members that might not have been posted in the previous dinosaur threads. Additionally, I believe there is a common misconception that a new forum member is also a new rider.

Amen. I have had LOTS of helpful advice from forums, appreciate the personalization that comes from a new post. I have been riding for way longer than I have been typing on a computer, or been saavy enough to discover forums, but still have huge holes in my education for various reasons (a husband that always took care of things like roof racks and minor repairs till we got divorced....) and this is a great place to get advice and enter opinions...for old or new topics. If it is something I have already read or am not interested in....click.

Using the search function often helps you start a better thread. You can ask a more precise question; you can say "the prevailing opinion seems to be ABC, but I need to know what you would do in XYZ situation..." etc.

Repeat questions happen all the time in the dog group I moderate, but it's a Yahoo group and the search function isn't very good. Plus, people like to blather on about dog food and poop, and I'm not inclined to stop them. It's easy enough to ignore anything that doesn't interest you.

As I said previously, I do use the search function. I just didn't think this would have been discussed to death, so my bad.

However, not for this particular issue in this thread, but in others I have had questions about, sometimes the search feature doesn't give me the answer I am looking for, or I can't find what I am looking for, despite there being 100 threads on the topic, so I will start another thread.

And yes, I like commas and ellipses
