My first commuter bike!

I picked up my very first commuter bike today.
It's a Specialized Globe Vienna 3 with an internal gear hub. It's so smooth and quiet and the shifting is effortless. I took Niki and Kali out on the their trot and Kali approves it as the official doggie exerciser bike.



The bell has a nice tone to it. I'm looking forward to late summer night rides under the stars.

Nice bike...can you do hills with that bike? I wonder if they make one small enough for a 4'9 3/4" person...

Sbc, I think hills are doable with the 8 gears, but the bike is hefty and the tires are 700x38. My legs got tired like I was back on my mtb cruising the streets.

It's soooooo purty! I know the owner of a LBS in town and he deals Specialized bikes and used a Globe to do all his errands in town. He loves that thing. I'm envious- it's a GREAT bike! Enjoy!!!

Tri Girl, thanks--I am really enjoying it and I can see how people would make this the all purpose bike.

Zen, re the lights--included--and the rear light is wired through the rack. The front light is a halogen bulb. I took it for a spin last night and DH reported that the rear light is very, very bright and very noticeable from a distance. He said cars would definitely see me coming or going. The front light is pretty good but I would still want to ride with my helmet light or another a handlebar mounted light in an area that has no street lights.

After my ride, we timed when the rear light would quit and it was after 5 minutes before it dimmed. The front light will dim after you stop.

The rack has a spring thing on it to hold down a jacket or a book or two.

Now I need to shop for a commuter saddle. Any suggestions?
