New saddle time

Thanks so much. I am very intrigued with the Selle Atomica saddle. I wonder if they make them for women. I know one of you said you ride one but the very great review was from a man. Their tushes are different obviously but I am going to check it out ASAP.

An Atomicas aren't gender specific. I have 2 of them, and am still riding happy.

Just a thought before you replace your saddle--are you sure it's not your shorts that need replacing. I have 3 pairs of the same style knickers, and I can tell 2 of them are about done. Yesterday, I got a saddle sore. Today, I wore the newest pair, and I was fine.

Just today I replaced my 6,000-miles old Terry Butterfly with...drum roll...another Terry Butterfly! I'm really happy with this saddle and I would recommend it, although saddles are such a personal thing that it's virtually impossible to know what will work for someone else. I would love to try a Brooks but I'll need to plan ahead better next time. This was an unanticipated saddle replacement as a rail was coming loose. Since I'm doing a Century on the 26th (well, supposedly I'm doing a Century...we'll see), I wanted to stick with something I know will be ok.

After years of just tolerating saddles (specialized jett, terry butterfly and damselfly) I am giving the Brooks that my boyfriend has been telling me to try for two years , a try. I have the swallow on there right now and so far so good. I want to get a longer ride in and more time before I make a proclamation, but the Brooks has surprised me so far.

How do you know when you need to replace your saddle? I've heard the kind I have wears out easily but is worth replacing. I can't tell if I'm tender from riding more now that the weather is cooperating or if my year old saddle needs replacing.

Becca, give yourself a couple more weeks. If you're still miserable, get a new saddle!

I had a Jett that came on my Ruby. It lasted two rides. I got rid of it quick, it really HURT. Put on my old Terry Butterfly TI, that seemed ok on my MTB, but found it to be too squishy, not enough support for me. So I bought a San Marco Aspide Glamore saddle. Very nice. A little too flexy but it did not hurt. So I rode that till I crash-damaged it about four months ago. At the LBS, I saw the Bontrager Inform saddles, and fell in love with the looks of the white RXL. I'm wide boned, so thought I would not be able to fit one, so I was bummed. But the employee showed me one in size 154 and advised that it has a 90 day unconditional return from Bontrager. It took about 8 rides, but it now is the most comfortable saddle I have ever had (and yes, I've had two Brooks in the past). I feel nothing- like I am floating. It's weird but I feel no pressure or anything. Had to mention it, as it looks like I am the only TE'er riding one. Going to put another on my MTB as soon as I can scrape up the cash. I have a WTB Diva TI there now, and it used to feel ok, but now hurts (I lost over 30 lbs so I guess I lost my 'padding'.) But the RXL still feels perfect.
