Congrats on your new baby!
That "Lucky" on the adoption website sure looks like a basenjii mix to me:

Dar -- renaming wasn't a problem with my dogs. They picked it up quickly.

Thanks guys. I talked to my son and told him about the dog (he's visiting his dad for the week). He started hollering he was gonna call him BatmanWe'll see about that.
You know, for a little no-kill shelter they have the best dogs there. I don't even live in that county anymore but I would go there for a pet any day. And I'm still using my vet there - I also find that hard to change.
Off to make him a grooming appointment - I've never had a dog professionally groomed before!

I renamed my dog from Shadow to Shiloh; he probably didn't even notice the change. My mom fostered a dog that she called Honey Lamb, and the adopter renamed her Cunningham. Again, I bet the dog hardly noticed.
I've been told that dogs pick up new names very easily, even names that don't sound like their old names. Your son should name him whatever he wants. Congratulations!
Yay for Tank and for Buddy!! Woot!
I always rename my fosters. They get a new start on life and I think they appreciate the new name. Give it time and see what his personality is like and then rename him. He's a lucky boy to have a nice family to call home!
Tctrek--Sparky and Mr. B, lol.
My little terror,er...terrier, came to me as Roxy.
She's now Roxina and sometimes Noxema.

I've posted pics of my dogs and cats before, but Toby was sleeping and he just had this great little smile on his face... and I couldn't resist...
Here's the whole furry lump of him...

Softie, what's your pup's name? She's a cutie, alright!
Lisa, that clip should be titled The Crazy Lady Cat Show.
"Here's a cat!" (tosses cat aside) "and here's a cat! WHEEE!" (thud)
Lydia looks so thrilled

Roadie gal--awwwwwwwwww. I could just kiss his little snoot.
Some days I secretly wish for a sheltie.
My first rescued dog was a collie that I named Maggie Rose. She just blossomed after being adopted by a family with 3 little girls that loved to brush her and dress her up.![]()
This thread has a definite CUTENESS OVERLOAD!
All these sweet snoots and soulful eyes.....![]()

Oooh, that's a tough one. Hank came named, but there was no way I was taking a dog with a preppy name like Hunter to rodeos. I like the name on precocious little boys, but not Australian Shepherds. Naming him was easy since I went with something close and it just happened to be what I wanted. I named him after the series of kid's books, Hank the Cowdog. Now he's more Hank the Couchdog.
I'd say use the name a lot. All the time. When you're talking nonsense to him (you do that right?) use his name. Hopefully he's not like my Lucky girl who refused to be anything but Lucky. I wanted her to be Tig after the dog in the movie Open Range. She's an older terrier mutt though, I think that's a big part of it!!!
