May I ask what size pants you normally wear? (The Tyr size chart doesn't mention hip size, just waist...weird)

I'm a size 10. These were definitely smaller than expected. my last shorts from Tyr were a medium so that is why I bought that size. They would probably fit an 8, I'm guessing.

    Sizing varies among different manufacturers.
I recently bought a skirt that was labeled as a size 8.
    SIZE 8!
    I haven't worn a real size 8 in 15 years.

So, do they fit a REAL size 8 or an "ego" size 8?

Indeed, I have a couple of pair of size 6 pants. But I don't see myself as a size 6. Unless I need to feel good. More like a average size 8 or small size 10. I sure as heck can't wear a size 6 dress, those are always too small.

Well, that's good to know. I need to order some, and I'd guess I need an XL since I'm a 12.

You are definitely right - sizes vary with different cuts, styles etc. There is no way for me to know exactly. I just wear a 10 in the styles I buy. No ego sizing here. So my best guess is the shorts would fit a non-ego sized 8.
