My relay team finished a 1/2 Ironman in 6 hours today!

I had put an all girls relay team together for a 1/2 Ironman distance triathlon! Our exact time was 6:11. The times below are approximate, as they didn't list our individual times.

We were in it for the fun of it... as we called ourselves the "Go-Go Girls"!

I did the swimming portion... and finished a 1.2 mile lake swim in 40 minutes. Even though I have done lake swimming a number of times, I had some issues with swallowing water and not swimming straight towards the buyos (? spelling)! Luckily I didn't let that bother me. I even had to flip on my back to defog my goggles at one time... but it was all good... My time was pretty good...I was in the top of the pack exiting the water and the second girl out!

The best part was the people lined up on either side of the mat... cheering me on! I smiled, waved and gave the "thumbs up" sign! That made them cheer more! Too cool!

My cyclists did 56 miles in about 2 hours and 50 minutes. She did a really great job... and went 10 minutes faster than we expected! She was the 3rd girl back! Because she was so fast...when she came to the transition area, the runner had to run in with her... because she wasn't ready for the trade off! OOOPS!

My runner did 13 miles in 2 hours and 20 minutes! I can't even imagine running that far! She went into the run with a bad back she has been recovering from, and a bit of a cramp. But she held the pace that she normally does.

Overall, it was great time... and a really long day! I was up at 4:30 AM and didn't get home until 3:30 PM! Of course, most of my day was spent sitting around cheering!

For you ladies who are strong in one area and want to experience a 1/2 Ironman distance tri... I suggest that you think about a relay team. It's so much fun just being out there!

OH! And I almost forgot... that guy in the Gatorade commerical who "falls out" from not being properly hydrated, but who comes back to win the Ironman the next year... he was there and in FIRST PLACE... with a 3:59... of course!

I have to say, it was really *inspiring* to see all the different people... of all ages and body types... out there doing it!

sounds like fun!! and sounds like you 3 had some good times going!! well done!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"
