I think mine comes down to not enjoying riding alone. If he doesn't want to/can't come I usually stay home. I do not have riding buddies save for a couple gals I will call mountain rides with but no roadies. I am content to run and so far we have not addressed a long term illness. When he was off the bike with his first Crohn's flare up I was so exhausted and frightened I didn't even think of riding this was probably 1-2 months of no riding. This current injury? I am training for a half marathon and the thing should be cleared up in a few weeks when my run is over.

I think he is sensitive to if I am ill he doesn't want me home for 4-6 hours so he will shorten his ride. If your own spouse doesn't that doesn't mean they are inconsiderate, just DH doesn't like to leave me home. Unless he knows I am really sick and will sleep for a long time, then I prefer he stays gone. LOL. We also spend a lot of time together which may explain some differences. If we are running in opposite directions too long it wears on him, he isn't clingy per se but he doesn't like to be apart extended times either. Oddly we did long distance for two years!
