I am allergic to chemical sunscreens and find the zinc oxide/titanium dioxide to be my best bet. I love that it doesn't have to be reapplied (5+ hours and not a hint of tan), doesn't run into my eyes, doesn't cause skin irritation or breakouts; but I'm not really a fan of the white/pasty look I get with it (I have olive skin, so it shows up more than it would on a person with fair skin).

My other best friend is SPF 50 clothing -- full-length tights and long-sleeved jerseys. No sunscreen needed underneath.

Tofu, I am also a fan of Bullfrog gel. It goes on well, not creamy, and sort of disappears. It does sting the eyes if you sweat into your eyes. I rode the Southern Tier two years ago and several of our people had to stop riding for two days after a terrible sunburn. I barely had a tan after two months on the road. That was FINE with me. I don't go out of the house in the sun without sunblock...Northern European descent (light hair, skin, and blue eyes!) and already have had several skin cancers removed.

I hate it when the sunblock turns your skin white when you ride and sweat in the summer and Bullfrog definitely does not do that.

Same here. I use the non-chemical oxide stuff.
Then I also have a tiny tube of heavy duty zinc oxide in dayglo green, which I like to put on just my nose in the worst sun conditions....looks cute! DH will only use the white.

I just bought Blue Lizard on drugstore.com and used it for the first time on Saturday. I think it did a good job as a sunblock, but I ended up doing most of the ride with fouled up contact lenses; I think I got some sunscreen in my eyes. Next time I need to be more careful to keep it away from my eyes.

sunscreen gives me zits ..a charming sight a 50 year old with pimples.....no matter what I use..*sigh* but I am stupidly hopeful and every year I try something new....

I tried the brand that's #1 on their safety list, but it gave me horrible pimples, smelled awful, and offered no water repellency (a must since I swim outdoors).

So now I'm going to try this one, which is also reef safe (a recent study is pointing to the ingredients in sunscreen as one of the primary reasons for reef die-offs).

Also,no toxins. Safe for enviroment, wont hurt kiddies if they eat the tube and washes out. No smell either.
So it looks funny, but then again,so do I! Cycle muggles are the only people laughing anyhow. Besides what goes so well with a duck walk( road cleats, chamois) , nappie( diaper) bum, eyestrain( logos and fluro tops) and general star wars clothing?! Coloured zinc!!
( you really know you a cyclist, when you see the opposite sex kitted up in this way, and you still think wow! sex on wheels.....)

On my face I use Dr. Hauschka (pricey). On the rest of me I used CVS SPF 30. It's cheap but it gets the job done.

Oooh, blue would match my tires and handlebar tape....

Especially since my nose is the only part of me where I use sunscreen on rides under 3 hours.

Stop giving me ideas!
