I agree about the benefit of keeping in touch on Facebook. I've spent my life moving around and it's exceedingly difficult to stay in touch with all my friends across 15 different states and cities when everyone has lives and jobs and families and such. Before Facebook, I had to let go of some of those relationships because I just couldn't manage it.
Now I can. And I've reconnected with people from my childhood...and friends that I've lost touch with from all stages of my life.
On my birthday, I had over 40 people, again, from all stages of my life, wish me happy birthday on Facebook. It made me cry. (yes, I'm a dork).
I know plenty of people who don't bother with Facebook (or other similiar sites) because most of their friends and family are local. If I were in that situation, I probably wouldn't need it either. But for my life, it's been wonderful.![]()
