YAY!!!!!!! Our first significant ride of the year!!!! About 40F and partly sunny and dry enough roads. DH and I rode 20 miles...a great modest warm-up start to the year. I am out of shape, and the 20 miles today felt more like 30 miles felt last Fall to me. It's my respiratory stamina that's gotten out of shape, but happily my leg muscles seem just fine still from last year. Good ol' quads.

It was FUN! Saw and heard some bluebirds, a caterpiller crossing the road, big flocks of redwing blackbirds coming back from their winter down south...
Ponds are still frozen over, snow piles still hanging on here and there.

Then I actually cleaned my bike when we got home.
I feel tired and all stretched out but in a good way.

It was supposed to be freezing, sleet, snow-rain all weekend but we woke up to blue skies and 5-10°C, so we got out the MTBs.

We bundled up&went for a flat ride along one of the smaller rivers leading into town, 1.5-2hours or so. I dropped into bed like a dead fly when we came back around 4pm.

The cold takes so much out of you.
It's a little secret you didn't know about us women. We're all closet Visigoths.

First non-rainy weekend in 5 weeks. Took my Cannondale for a nice 43 mile spin. The cyclists I passed were all smiling and friendly. Got into several nice conversations at stop lights. Man I missed riding outside!

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Started out early since I had a bunch of stuff to do today.
The bollards on the bike path had been giving me trouble, so I stopped and took a photo:

Decided to practice my hill starts and take a photo:

of course, I flubbed the first hill start on the club ride, plus they seemed more interest in who would finish first than seeing the sights, so I did my own thing most excellent!
I did stop in for "social hour"

weather was too nice to not go out here! I waited until after I watched the Pitt UConn game (go Panthers) then headed out with the intent of a very short ride, as I've only been out once this year. I ended up doing 13.5 miles, my hip wasn't real happy about that, but nothing a good soak and stretch won't fix. Felt good, though a few cars annoyed me, more of them were nice and offered me the right of way even when it wasn't mine, so it all balances out I guess.

Did 20 miles in crazy wind again today. In the strong headwind I could only push 14.5 mph or so and in the tailwind I did 28. Wheeeeee!!!

20 miles today in SW Michigan. I started out in foggy, damp weather. In the midst of doing some hill repeats, the skies opened up. A torrential downpour with a stiff NW wind motivated me to get home. (Good practice for a time with cross winds.) I am glad I brought my rain jacket! I hope tomorrow is not quite so damp.
