    Saddle suggestions?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

While I wait for my (now titanium) clavicle to fix itself, I'm turning my attention to healing the bike. I didn't know it was possible to taco a saddle, but hey, something new every day.

I had a Selle Royal Women’s Dardo Chromoly (came on the bike) and wouldn't have much to say about it either way ... I often felt like I was sliding forward on it but it was probably just badly adjusted. It was maybe a little wide.

So: Your favorite saddle? In case anyone's really good at this -- I am a somewhat freakish combination of a small frame, proportionally big hips, and no a ss (i.e. the worst sprinter ever). Also, the mounting pile of medical bills mean I'll be erring on cheap side of the problem.

All ideas appreciated. Directing a n00b to an old thread on the topic (if there is one) also appreciated.

You can adjust the angle. Start with leveling the saddle and adjust a few degrees (tilt forward or backward) to your taste.

    How wide is your saddle?

I only use the saddles that came from the bike:
    (1) Selle San Marco Island Ponza -- a little bit too narrow (12.5 cm) and hard though I can still ride with it for 75+ km with regular pants.

    (2) Velo from Fuji Finest RC -- comfortable & not as hard as (1). It's 15cm wide, but I prefer a little bit narrow.

Anyway, I am quite happy with (2), but when I buy a new one, I'll try 13-14 cm wide.

Have a look at the whole TE forum & towards the middle of the page there's a saddle section.

I just got a Brooks B17 due to the great feedback I read right here on TE. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it since it was stiff as a board, so to speak, but that opinion faded quickly! So far I have put about 80 miles on it since I got about a week and a half ago, and I LOVE IT! My 'butt bones' were sore the first ride I took it on (22 miles), but my bottom quickly got used to it...also the soreness that felt like bruising without the marks was completely eliminated by this little guy! And the best part? The saddle forced me to sit on the bike with a perfect butt position for riding for many, many miles which I had trouble with with my previous Terry saddle.

    Thumbs up for Brooks!!!

Hooked on the Specialized ruby. Uber flat with a great cutout. A little flex but nice and light. Thats my pick.

Ditto the Brooks. Worth every penny.

    Semi-given up

I've sort of given up on saddles for now

What I have now is decent and I have other expenses and priorities (bike fit, aah). I think I will wait for my fit (I think I will schedule it for March, sometime after my birthday) and ask them about it and possibly try some new ones.

I'm somewhat lucky and take a 130 so can also try most men's saddles

So I'm still on my Specialized Ariel. It's a "mountain" saddle but it was waaaay better than the stock saddle

What I found is that a different saddle completely changes the way I sit on my bike. So there wouldn't have been a lot of point in getting a fitting and then changing out a saddle. YMMV

Oh my, those seatposts are mighty uncomfortable on the girly bits. Do you use a setback one, at least?

You've foiled my fitting plan...I still need to check with the bike shop because they have a "fit guarantee." I am not sure about the details--if I change components if it voids the fit guarantee.

So Oakleaf, in your opinion, I should find a better saddle before my fitting instead of waiting until my fitting? Shoot me a PM

I actually accidentally cracked the bontrager carbon seatpost (too much torque. I am much more careful now) which I replaced with a Ritchey Carbon Pro

    Orlyysrly--sorry for threadjacking!!!

Selle San Marco Aspide Glamour - I can't stand cutouts and this saddle perfectly matches my sit bones.
