Dear Self, (warning: LONG! I'm working it out for myself...comments welcomed! )

To race or not to race? Since my crash, and not being able to ride for two weeks, all of the sudden I started spending time doing my other hobbies, and found more balance in my life that I liked. I actually had food in the house and so my (old enough to really cook for themselves as young adults) kids had food to eat, and worked in my neglected garden. I actually had time to make things for my neglected business, which had a loss this year for the first time (It's not my day job) I'm thinking, that as fun as it is to train with the gals, it's too much. Especially when my non-racing roadie bf moves here! I'll want to spend weekends riding with him, and doing organized rides on the weekends, or casual tours together, not taking off for a race.

Also, at 50, I'm not too keen on the crashes and injuries that are part of it. Nor could I afford to replace her, I've been lucky with fixable damage with my crashes and incidents so far!

Soooo, maybe it's okay to train with the gals, but not race so much.

    Maybe.

    Dear self,

Thanks for remembering that "Don't Work for A**holes" article, and being strong enough to walk away from a bad situation. It might be a little scary right now, but that other thing you're feeling is relief. It will all work out in the end.

    Love,
    Dex

    Hi again, Mom and Dad.

Tonight we saw Pacific Northwest Ballet's Broadway Festival. The staging, the choreography, and the dancing were outstanding! All the music was from your era---Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, Carousel, Take Five, and West Side Story. You both would have loved it and it made me miss you more than I can say, as usual. Thanks for being such cool parents. Wish you were still here.

    To whom it may concern.
Yes, we in the Pacific North West were originally amused when you sent us cold and snow for a month. After the second month, we found it less amusing.
When it continued into March, our clammy toes froze and we felt like the joke is on us, you have gotten revenge for all our bragging about our wonderfully mild climate.
It is hard not to notice that a majority of this weather is happening on weekends. Is that an in your face or what?
You made your point. Are you going to let us have spring or what?
Yours truly another little tiny creature on the planet.

ps IS THAT SNOW I SEE FALLING OUTSIDE NOW??!?!?

    Dear Aunt Carol,

Today marks the fourth anniversary of your passing, and there still isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you and wish you were here.

Thanks for being such an instrumental part of my life for 40+ years; I try to practice the lessons you taught me, whether it's being a person of integrity or just taking the time to enjoy a cupcake with a friend.

    I miss you lots.

    Love,
    Your favorite niece

PS I had a cupcake in your honor today!
I'll get back on the bike soon, I promise!

    Dear Weather Gods:

Please don't forget that the PNW has a wet and dry side. I don't blame Mimi, but please continue to snow on the dry east side. Unlikethe west side, we need to moisture. We won't get any more in a few months. We need every bit. Especially the fishies.

Besides, I haven't had enough skiing for the season and I'm stuck inside now with a gigandawanda blister and bronchitis so prolonging the ski season would be very appreciated.

    Which reminds me . . .
Dear Parents of Snotcicle Laden Short People:

Please keep them at home where they belong. The only two times in the last two years I've been surrounded by your microbe incubators I've been sick within 48 hours. I don't get sick otherwise so I know you are responsible. Show a little respect for others.
    Signed,
