    golly, Mike is beautiful!!

I hear so much heartbreaking stories of abuse and/or neglect. How do these terrible offenders sleep at night?!?

I'm ever so amazed at the animals' resilience and their capacity to love humans even after they've been treated so horribly. Hope Mike finds a home that is deserving of his beautiful soul!!

Oh Mikey is beautiful and very lucky. Sounds like he was a "bait" for the pitbulls. Animal control should be called to the house with the pitbulls. If the owner was that abusive to him and with loose pitbulls... I just have to wonder.

I showed the photo to my partner and she said "bait" too. She also thinks the dog is a pure bred chocolate lab from the pic. probably stolen from somewhere. The owner will be getting another bait dog. so have the neighbor keep checking and turn that sorry arse to SPCA and animal control.

He is very cute. give him lots of hugs from all of us.
I wish him a good life, a happy life.

God Bless you Tucker for fostering Mike (and others). Just think if humans had the same capacity to love like these animals. Maybe this wouldn't happen so often.

I think the former owner should be the new bait for the pitbulls. That would be justice to me.

No, he's 99% Weimaraner, although I thought he was a Lab, too when I first saw the pictures they sent. He can't look more like a Weimaraner in all ways, except his eye color, and he's really dark gray with some brownish hints. There's probably some Lab in there somewhere, though. They were billing him as full-blooded Weimaraner. It doesn't really matter what he is, as long as he's safe.

I wish I could say something happened to the abusers, but they live in another city and I don't know who they are, and of course I didn't see any of it. He was posted on Freecycle by neighbors of the abuser. These two people happen to run a cat rescue, and took the dog in and spent lots of money on him to get him healthy. They bought him a dog house and all this other stuff like a raised dish, etc., knowing they wouldn't keep him. He's microchipped and I have all his records. They spent A LOT of money! I thought that was very generous of them. He spent a week at the vet. Some of his teeth had to be removed because he was gnawing on the chain link fence he was tied to. It's all very sad. Those people were so nice.

He's going to my son's house to be a companion for their Great Pyr/Lab mix. New baby comes this month, so when my DIL is ready to handle another dog, Mikey should be ready. I just saw him wrestling with my little terrier and now he's rolling around on the floor by himself, so he's settling right in!

I'll pass on your good wishes to him!

    Hi Karen,

My partner and I talked some more. The people who rescued Mikey needs to be careful with the abuser. If he(abuser) had Mikey as a "bait" and had/have pit bulls running around loose, chances are very high that the abusers may be affiliated with gangs or a member of a gang, most likely have guns and illicit drugs used and sold. Tell them to be very careful. As much as they may want to rescue the dogs, they really need to think about their own safety.

Personal safety first before you rescue anybody else!! Same goes for rescuing animals.

one more thing. If the neighbors see another bait dog at the abusers place, have them call the police not animal control and tell them that there are loose pit bulls in the yard with a bait dog. The police will be out there in a hurry cause its drugs, money, guns and gangs.

    lastly,

Since Mikey is no where near the abusers place, he has nothing to fear. Weimrunner... very cute. Had my partner fooled. lol

I just wish people don't use pit bulls as a means to intimidate people or to train them to fight dogs.

Pit bulls often make horrible "guard dogs" because they inherently love people. They have problems with other animals but for the most part (unless they've been trained otherwise) they love humans and won't hurt them.

But people like that give them the worst reputation that just keep getting worse.

Smilingcat, thanks for the advice. I will definitely pass it on to the gals who saved him.

He's been here almost a week, and he now remembers what it's like to be a dog. Quite a sweetie. Flatulent, but sweet!
