    Dear So and So.
You took my case. You said you would fight for me. You lazy bastard, you told me my injuries weren't much because I had only broken a couple of bones, and football players are much tougher than girls, they do that all the time.

You took a settlement I asked you not to because you thought you knew better. You told me I was young and resilient, that I would be fine. My doctors blew through that in less than a year. You wouldnt fight for PT for me, you thought you knew better.

Well, it's many years later, and only now can I get back on a bike. Of course, I am on a bike because I have so much trouble walking. I might not have healed better with proper care, but I had a *right* to it, to try to heal as well as I could have.

You righteous, pretentious ***. You smug idiot. I hope you get it now. I hope your nursing home attendant is a cycle commuter. I hope your kids live three states away and are too "busy" to visit you. I hope I never see you in the street, because I might need a lawyer if I do.

a lawyer told you THAT? what a bunch of crap. there's only one person who knows how much something hurts and that's the one inside. "much tougher", yeah right. young, very fit and coddled by the latest in medical expertise is more like it.

    Dear Body,
thank you for being resilient and healing well. love ya.

    Dear Mind,
what's with the "omg, i'm gonna die" pain for something that turned out to be pretty trivial anyway? just curious.

    Dear Fate,
thank you thank you thank you for a lucky fall and picking the most expendable of my joints. this board reminds me all the time i am so darn lucky i don't deserve it.

On behalf of my profession, I'm sorry. Too often, people only have interactions with the worst among us. There is no excuse for the way you were treated, and it is not right.

The problem seems to be that we only have interactions when we are in a position of weakness. Some rare representatives of your trade may take advantage of that.

This had to do with one supercilious dolt who happens to have been available when I was too inexperienced to know how to shop for a proper attorney to protect my interests.

I have had many wonderful interactions with those who practice law in the years since. This one buffoon happened to be an attorney, and happened to continue the ruination of my life, but he's not All lawyers.

Now I know to find a bike lawyer, and where to look for one if I need one. Thank goodness for the internet.

I have needed to let this rant out for many years, and someone else's recent crash post brought it back to me. Thanks for the opportunity to vent, but please don't take the topic as any kind of statement of mistrust or batch-labeling.

    Thank you.

No worries. Feel free to vent - I didn't take your post as judgment on all lawyers

It's one of my issues. I just really hate to hear about other lawyers taking advantage of folks in those kinds of situations. It's a very sad fact of life that just shouldn't be. And all too often, that's the only experience people have. I'm very glad that you've had other, better experiences - I just really wish those who acted as that attorney did would not longer be permitted to practice.

    ride

Dear woman on bike that decided to draft off me tonight..

I'm so glad I told you to "take your turn or move along"...Don't expect a free ride from me for the 15km ride down the river Yeah, I was going a bit slow but I did a nice long ride this morning..why should i kill myself in the headwind? Perhaps you need to do some more cycling on your own & battle the headwind yourself.

    Harumph..

    Dear Son's (maybe-ex-) Girlfriend:

Really? The only reason is that you "want to be single"? REALLY? After 5 years? Why'd you take so long? Please don't drag it out. Move out now. Take the giant dog that you insisted on adopting, and the three cats, too. Take your crap and go. You were so right for him, but now you're not, so go. Don't drag it out, PLEASE.

Dear Son: I love you, and it will get better. Thanks for being my boy. I'm here if you need me.

    Love,
    Mom

    Dear Plumbers,
I can't believe I got same day service. Thank you for fixing the tub, and the drippy faucet, and only for charging me for the tub because the sink fixtures will need to be replaced eventually. Restores my faith that there are honest tradesmen out there. Hope the young kid journeyman with you learns the honesty part too.

Hint to everyone from my plumber - mix 1 tsp baking soda with 1 cup white vinegar and immediately pour it down your tub drain WEEKLY, follow with a kettle of boiling water rinse. Will keep your tub pipes happy - cleans soap skum. No need for severe chemical warfare.

    Current wind chill: -2

Not even my die-hard cold weather K9s want to spend more than a few minutes outside in this cold.

I'm warming up the sunroom, where I will spend a couple hours with Coach Troy. Should I go to Arizona for rides up Mt. Lemmon and Gates Pass or should I opt for that beast Have Mercy, the Sequel?

I checked the extended outlook -- possible snow showers tomorrow, which will be the final indignity if we have any accumulation. The way things are going, there won't be any outdoor riding in the near future. Even the Bike Rack in DC canceled its store ride for today!

Feel sorry for the inauguration spectators and public safety folks who will be out in this.

I'd go for the AZ scenery! Much easier to pretend you're somewhere warmer

That's what I did but I had forgotten how tough it was to climb up Mt. Lemmon. I did that entire part of the ride, plus the descent, and then Gates Pass to Kinney Road. About 2 hrs.

I'd love to move out there. I've had enough of East Coast weather.

    Ride

    Up

    Lemmon???

    I'm impressed!

I used to live in Tucson, and I can't imagine riding UP Mt Lemmon. What an 8000 ft elevation change?

I don't think Coach Troy goes the entire way up. Just 15 miles or so. To Windy Gap, I think. It was hard.
