    Only 6 miles from home

Since I'm not supposed to ride I did a walk. I know, you're say another boring set of photos from the rail trail
Only I decided to hike into Cucamonga canyon

    It starts out ok:

It's very steep for the fist half mile. Then you come to a gate

It gets more steeper and turns to dirt. Then you start to descend
Eventually you get to Cucamonga creek, so totally not LA:

Then I came back up and home
    but still had great views:

So in some ways not riding is better. I don't think I could have done this on a bike.

Your pictures are NEVER boring. And these are spectacular! Thanks.

As always, amazingly beautiful pictures. I guess I didn't realize it was so pretty and mountainous near LA. It's like you're all alone out there and there aren't millions of people just below. How pretty!!! I'm glad you had a great hike!

That's one of the reasons why the movie business took off here - You can do so many varied things with the scenery.
Yes, LA is weird with the mountains quite literally right in town. one joke during the winter can you can go surfing in the morning and snow skiing in the afternoon. If you look closely at the last pic, you can make out some snow at the top of Ontario Peak (about 9000 ft, I was at about 2750).
Did I mention I was in shorts and a t-shirt?

And running water in the stream! Really lovely!(we were at the velodrome in Carson today `- 85 degrees outdoors- some crazy January weather! ) I hope you get to enjoy this kind of hiking often - it's great crosstraining for when you get back on the bike! ( I did alot when I was in broken thumbville last spring) Tokie

Wonderful photos. I've always been fascinated by the contrasts in California -- wonderful things so close to urban areas. Thanks for sharing these.

    Tokie,
Up there Cucamong creek does flow year round (the joke here is that most of our river and creeks are usually dry washes for 10 months of the year _ I always rememember the scene in "grease" where they race in the LA River bed)
Thanks all, Hopefully I'll be back on the road soon!
