Several years ago the Federation Internationale de Motociclisme held its safety conference in the USA, and DH and I attended as observers. Apparently when the UK enacted its national helmet law some 30 years before the conference, it had brought about a schism in their national motorcyclists' organization. Both organizations (pro and anti helmet law) sent delegates to the conference, and it was nothing less than astounding to see the bad blood that remained between them 30 years later. Shouting matches between people who would've been in their teens or younger when the split occurred.
