http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contra_dance Sounds like fun! Although it says that in North America dancers are encouraged to change partners with every dance. That part I don't like. I like dancing with Jeff because he knows my limitations!

Tulip, I wish I had the talent for Latin. Jeff can dance most of those rhythms, but I find I don't have the "hip wiggle" it seems to require. I'm too stiff. I can fake the swing, waltz, foxtrot, etc., but anything beyond that usually finds me making a mess of it. Do you take lessons?

Maybe it's in my Iberian genes, I don't know, but I my hips just go. I have taken lessons in the past (years ago) and I think I will either take more lessons or just go dancing with my SO. He's such a good dancer (but no Iberia in him!).

    Year End Weight: 145.

Not my goal but I am down a bit. With only 10 lbs left I want to lose I guess I should expect a slow down. I felt super fabulous at 130-135 so the upper end is my ultimate goal.

I did just get Sonic on the way home from the vet. Starting Friday cooking at home and eating better. Plus running. I may have sold my commuter bike (it just was a horrible fit and I hated it) but I think I may do the backpack commute thing home next week. I think I will just handle my 28 mile commute home on my Cannondale until I can get a Bike Friday. What does this have to do with this thread? Happy New Year everyone!

Jeff & I went contra dancing last night, as planned. We met our friend Amy there, who gave us a little mini pre-lesson lesson. Then they had a lesson for the clueless folks like me, and taught us the basics. The caller was very patient, and very clear. The first two dances I did alright, managing not to screw up very much, but after that the dances got more complex and the rhythms got faster. By the end of the 4th dance, I was struggling. Fortunately I had a very understanding partner for that one!

Eventually I got blisters from my shoes and decided it was time for me to become an observer. It was alot of fun to watch - there was an elevated area at the back of the room, so I could observe everyone spinning and twirling. It was great to see Jeff having such a good time. He danced for 3 hours. He used to dance quite alot before we met, but fell out of it in recent years.

Great exercise too! Weightwatchers gives 3 activity points per hour of dancing. Jeff thinks we should do this once a month or so, so perhaps I'll add it to my weight loss plan for the new year...

Hope everyone had fun last night!
