Fort Worth is not bad, the area near TCU seemed pretty cool (we went to the Zoo last week). I just get lost in the Metroplex.

Davis Mountains? Love to visit but it is an hour to the nearest Walmart and the animals out there are real wild.

That sounds wonderful! I lived in Austin in the early 1990s and I just loved it. We lived close to campus, not out in the burbs, and I got around mostly by bike and bus. I'm sure it's changed alot since then, though. Housing was expensive then, and I can only imagine that it's much higher now.

As for the weather, I don't mind heat and humidity, and I'm sure it was hot and humid but I don't have any memories of it being dreadful at all. I do remember growing salad greens in my garden all winter long, though!

Cobalt, I know Asheville is not on your list, but weatherwise, it fits your requirements perfectly.

Tulip- You should take the Bike Friday and the SO out to the Davis Mountains one day. It is quiet and quaint, we spent our anniversary camping in the state park, hiking, star gazing and riding the scenic loop (76 miles through the mountains). We are trying to get back to stay in the Indian Lodge at Davis Mountains State Park, it is pretty cool looking.

Good idea, Aggie. I kick myself for not taking advantage of UT's awesome recreational outdoor sports programs when I worked there. They had a weeklong horseback ride in Big Bend when the cacti were in bloom--and I didn't go!!

I do miss Austin. I would have liked to have stayed there if I could have found a decent job. If I were in a position to up and move somewhere, Austin would be near the top of my list (along with Paris, San Luis Obispo, and Charleston).
