Nobody said that. But kids do count on their parents for support and look to their parents for example. Personally, I get tired of hearing discussion and news about the "miracle" and whether or not the parents are happy about this - like that's all that matters. There's more at stake here.

    Well, yeah, you did:

On the other hand, I feel really sorry for the baby. Adults can do what they want, but don't mess with the kids. They have to count on us, and this baby probably has to look forward to growing up with a single mom/visiting dad or otherwise being tossed around between parents. The baby might "need a dad" more than Lance claims he didn't.
You have no reason to believe that Lance is going to "mess with" this kid. And no, I don't think we'd be calling the person a "jerk" if the person had good medical reasons to believe he was sterile and then got someone pregnant anyway. God is punishing him? What on earth is wrong with you? Why would you say such a hateful thing? A man who went to extraordinary lengths to have his first three kids, and who is by every account I've ever read a committed and devoted dad, is being "punished" by the birth of a baby?

That is a very sick way to view the world and is not remotely supported by Armstrong's reported reaction to the news. Shame on you for making it into something so vicious and ugly. Shame on you for painting divorced fathers with such a broad brush.

    mebbe.

When someone is out there in the public eye, with Celebrity, Hero or Star status ( Lance, Barack, Britney, Madonna, Paris, Will, etc) they are setting examples and being role models whether they want that or not. Frankly, I'd rather have my heroes and role models modeling postive things, such as intact families. And if you are in the public eye, people will see and comment on what you choose.

Maybe I should just trash Madonna for being too tired to have sex with Guy since she's working out so hard. (in case you missed it, that's one reason cited for their split....)

I agree and disagree...I agree in the sense that I was disappointed when he started hanging out with that Olsen twin! When middle aged men date 21 yr old women - in many cases - it's evidence of extreme male insecurity and is not a positive role model (...and this has been discussed before and I agree that this is a generalization and not an absolute as some of you have proven in your own relationships)

But, on the other hand, I'm not sure what is normal anymore. Am I allowed to judge that exclusively...as conservative as I am, I think not.

I'm a literal b@stard - born to an unwed teenager and adopted at 4 days of age. A century ago, I would have been doomed...but today, I'm successful by most standards...and I'm considered normal (notwithstanding the fact that I hang out here).

Children in non-traditional situations are just as likely to thrive when it's the only life they know...they don't need to adjust - they simply live the life they know...as long as no one undermines their self perception by telling them they're in a bad situation. I always knew I was adopted...but I was always told that this made me special - So, I never associated it with being a b@stard child. Contrary to this, I have adopted friends that didn't know and the revelation for them was traumatizing.

    JMHO

I'm truly fascinated by the open discussion on this issue and the genuine and divergent opinions being expressed.

I think this sums it up pretty well. Good news for the girlfriend though. He doesn't leave you until you see him through a life threatening illness so she's in the clear for a while.

Tis a bummer because the girlfriend sounds way kick butt. Too good for him from the way it sounds. He reminds me of my older brother who even though I love him to pieces, he's a jerk. He has to date girls that are dumb as posts because the smart ones get sick of his ego.

I can't believe his comment that he'd play second fiddle to Contador, "if necessary." P'shaw! Contador is hot and you're not.

So I think it's awesometastic for other survivors of crotchel area cancer that they can still reproduce down the line. On the other hand the only thing that's miraculous is that two grown adults couldn't master the fine art of birth control juuuust in case.

Smurf...are you considering your source when you cite THAT website as the summation of "all things Lance?"

Noting of course that the link doesn't work because of the prominent presence of the "D" word in the site name that TE's filter blocks...

Now that's ironic! I personally thought she looked better when she had a little more meat on her bones.

I don't follow celebrity gossip or news. If either parent had a history of child abuse, abandonment, etc, I'd find this more newsworthy. The scientific aspect of it makes it interesting, for certain. As for the personal stuff, it's their business.

Xeney, what on earth is wrong with me? Why would I say such a hateful thing as "God is punishing him?" Well, geez, I've asked myself lots of times if God is punishing me or something when I've been overwhelmed. This would be overwhelming.

Then you say that this is a sick way to look at the world, shame on me for making it so vicious and ugly . . . Well, I'm sorry you feel that way because I disagree because, again, my main point is that there's a kid coming into this world and he/she will have needs and it won't be easy - it will be very difficult to meet those needs. Surely you don't disagree with that, and surely you don't think that's sick, ugly, hateful, something wrong with me, etc. There's a lot more at stake than whether or not Lance and GF are happy.

I've never been much of a Lance fan, but I'm just not a fan of anyone generally speaking.

This caveat aside, I'm also surprised at how so many people can make so many comments and judgments about someone's life with any confidence at all, even sounding "informed," based on mostly (if not only) media representations of that person. As if the gossip press (or the sports press, or almost any press at all) could be trusted to really represent anyone with any level of trustworthiness.

How interesting. Harsh medical treatment; would that be castration and a lifetime of hormone therapy?
I know a guy who had testicular cancer and they left him with one testicle and he's had kids since... so does anyone know how many Lance has?
obviously if he has none, it's not his child.

In this case the press was specifically used to announce a personal matter. Personally, and this is just my opinion, it just didn't look right for a high-profile celebrity such as Lance Armstrong to announce that against all odds, he'd gotten his girlfriend pregnant, this after numerous well-publicized short-term romances since his divorce, all of which were undoubtedly known to his three children who look up to him and are looking for a good example to follow as they grow up. Lance's three children are all medical miracles since Lance is a cancer survivor who is alive against all odds, so the children are well publicized as part of his campaign to beat cancer. It's all a trail which is being used in his publicity for his foundation. The ending part about getting girlfriend # ??? since his divorce pregnant looked bad, my opinion, and to top it all off, the press announced it on Christmas Eve. It was like, "Don't you DARE think anything besides 'what a gift!', or you're a mean, awful Scrooge!

I usually don't get too wrapped up in celebrity gossip. I'll admit, sometimes I indulge a little. But this one really hit a bad note with me.

How many of what, kids or testicles? If the latter, he's got one. That's why Robin Williams calls him the "Uni-baller"

This is the first I've read this thread and I gotta say it's been very entertaining. Is this what y'all do when it's too cold to get out and ride yer bike?
