    Dec. 15 Rides (or non-rides)

    It's SNOWING!!!

Hallelujah! We need snow so badly here. I'm very excited. Hopefully I'll be skiing any day now. I can't wait!

Unfortunately this has been a non-ride weekend for me because of the weather. I did 30 minutes each day on the torture machine...oh, I mean the trainer. I just hate that thing. I hooked my old wired computer to the back wheel so I could see how far/fast I'm going. I was a little disappointed with what I found out...a lot slower and less miles than I thought it would be! Which is amazing because I get so tired out on the dumb thing.

I went out for an hour in the cold, windy rain.

A very big thumbs up for my Castelli rain jacket, Joneswear thick wool tights, and my trusty Pokey with fenders. I stayed warm and reasonably dry.

(Meanwhile, Lee stayed home watching a Harry Potter movie we had recorded)

I rode!!!! I did about 24 miles. It was pretty nice out. I was alone and hadn't ridden for a few days, so I took it easy.

I was going to do my big hills, but when I got to the street where I turn to go down (which you gotta do before you can climb back up ), I had to get off my bike to cross a sheet of ice. I decided not to find out what a steep ice covered downhill fall feels like. Even though it was above freezing, the hills are steep, so the ice melts to a certain point, a puddle forms, then freezes again where the "sun don't shine". Glad I didn't learn this the hard way!

Tomorrow we're in for a treat--it's going to be around 50º! It hasn't been that warm in weeks! Of course, winds will be 20-30mph, but I'm not complaining.

    Wait...isn't today the 14th?

It was sunny and 80 degrees here today. Went for a very pleasant ride after not having ridden for two weeks. Tried out some new shorts I got on sale for $10 a few weeks ago -- Trek WSD Club Shorts. They were okay, but not nearly as comfy as my Mt. Borah underliners. But for 10 bucks, I can't complain.

Too many scary ice patches around here to even think about riding.

Today was 45 degrees with a little sun. I rode 15 miles or so. Best part was a beautiful sunset.

I went for a 4 mile walk on the road because the trails are full of downed trees and falling ice. Of course tomorrow, when it will be 50 out, I will be in my last classes of the semester. Plus, my bike went up on the trainer Saturday, when I was at spin class (a surprise from my husband).
I guess I could jump on the Jamis for a quick spin at 9 AM, but that would be pushing it for time.

Rode 23.66 miles with DH on my tuned up road bike. It feels like new again! It recently got a new cassette, chain, bar tape and general tightening up including the loose headset. Temps were ok, but there were patches of ice. I had to walk over the same one Redrhodie mentioned above.

I spent the weekend on the Texas Holiday Wine trail. Went to 17 wineries in the Texas Hill Country from Friday-Sunday. It was a lot of fun, a lot of wine. Some of them were boring and commercial but a lot you met the Vinter and owners. Those were cool plus most wineries have dogs, lots of loving given. It was really windy this weekend anyway and I hate 30 mph wind gusts when riding so it was a perfect weekend to do something else.
