It so rarely snows out here (maybe a more in Vancouver?... they are a bit more north than we are, but they are still costal) That year round cycling isn't as outrageous as it seems. Heck, I probably do more of my longer rides in the middle of winter as training actually slows down during the racing season, but this time of the year I have at least one 3 hour ride per week on the schedule.

Snow? I learned my lesson last year... The day it snowed (yeah one day....) I took the bus to work and a 25 min bike ride turned into a two hour bus ride... If it snows again this year dinky (my cross bike) is coming out and I'm riding in....

I hear ya! Yep, it rarely snows here neither. But the problem with Vancouver is motorists freak our when there's a dust of snow on the ground. They somehow forget how to drive. I guess the fact that it's wet snow and ice that doesn't help neither. It's not like the East where it's dry and fluffy. Plus the City doesn't clear out the side lanes or bike route. And I have to go over a bridge that's kinda crazy already. I don't know if studded tries will save me from motorist.

But do studded tires work on wet snow? Or just ice? It's tempting but if it only snow once and I have to spend over $100 on tires. Argh.. I don't know.
