Suggestions needed for short stature cold weather tights

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Hello all. Do you have any suggestions for cold weather tights that will fit someone who is short in stature (5'5") and on the heavier side? The extra large sized womens' tights I've seen would probably be too long.

    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the TE forum.

TE is very good about listing inseam measurements on the products. 5'5" isn't necessarily all that short. It depends on your leg length, not your height. I'm 5'4" only on a good day and most tights are too short for me.

Go cruise the tights with your leg length in mind.

Oh yeah. If you call TE, they'll even measure products for you. TE and Orvis set the benchmark for customer service.

If you really have short legs, consider knickers and knee socks. You can also turn the bottoms up, I've done that too, and cover the cuff with your socks.

Athleta makes most of their tights/pants in lengths.

However, rereading this, I agree with SadieKate -- 5'5" is not short if you're buying women's. I'm 5'6" with kind of average length legs (31.5" inseam) and find tights too short far more often than I find them too long.

See - and I'm only 5'4" and most things are WAY too long on me because I have very short legs. That said, there are very few tights that are actually too long on me (pants, yes, stretchy things...not so much). This is because I have larger legs, so stretchy items expand to the side and therefore are rarely too long once on (even if the measured length is long). It's one of the few benefits to big legs!

I can't find short rain pants, but for tights, I just order my regular size. I've only had a problem once with a pair of Castelli tights that were too long.

I am 5'2" with a 28.5 to 29" inseam. I found that men's small tights often fit me just fine b/c men tend to have shorter legs for their height than women do (proportion-wise). So my warmest winter tights are men's Cannondale, size small. I got them for a very good price on the sale rack at Performance, because not many men wear a size small!

I'm about 5'5" with about a 29" inseam. I really haven't had any problems with tight lengths.
