Tulip - Get a good book on Border Collies, my favorite is The Versatile Border Collie. They are my all time favorite breed but can tend to train their owner before you even realize it's happening.

I'm glad y'all like him. He's met my BF, and now all of you. He does like to play, but inside the house he's very calm. We're going to do an obedience class, mostly for me, but he does pull on the leash.

He has tons of personality, yet is still a velco dog and just likes to hang out with people. He's not much on other dogs, he can take them or leave them. He likes cats alot and would like to have one of his own, but I'm allergic to them.

I changed my hair for the winter, by the way. Easier when I have to get up early and go for dog walks.

Yes, I'm sure we'll have many happy ears...I mean years...together if day one is any indication.

He's so cute! I love the collar, too.

My friend and I walk her dogs with "gentle leaders". I highly recommend them.

    What a cutie!

Our Tazz was half Aussie, to look at him anyway. He was SCARY smart. Do not let this dog challenge you to chess.

Congradulations! Nala approves!!! She also wants me to remind you to comb Shiloh's ears regularily, otherwise she'll get painful mats behind her ears . Nala has forgiven me for this mishap on my learning curve.

Herding dogs are loads of fun, and like to be kept busy. If you don't spend time with them, they'll find things to do.........

Walks are good. Maybe Shiloh will learn to play frisbee? Nala never did grasp the concept.

I love him!!! Where are you taking obedience classes at? Nigel pulls on the leash too. I'm not sure where in VA you are at, but the dog trainer at Hunt Club Farms (Virginia Beach) has a very good reputation.

Maybe Siloh is a Friese stabij

    Hi,
What a very cute dog. My mum has one that looks like yours. It is a Friese stabij. A Friese stabij is a Dutch dog that is used on farms to hunt for mice. Check this link: http://www.sudewyn.nl/friesestabijfotos.htm
I think yors is a Stabij (of part Stabij), and a cutie ofcourse.

    Kind regards from Holland, Carlio

Wow, the markings on one of those Dutch dogs is just like Shiloh's, including the faint white line all the way up the center of his nose! The body type is border collie for sure, but the markings sure look like a Friese stabij.

    Thanks!

Wow, tulip - if Shiloh is part boarder collie (that herd) and part Friese stabij (that hunt mice)...bring him to my house! We could totally use a dog like that to help around the farm. We've got one who hunts mice well enough...and another that is sort of getting the herding thing...but one dog to do both would be a joy.

If he ever needs a good workout, you can bring him to Oregon for a visit!

Oh!!!! The herding dogs are just the best!! Shiloh looks as if he's just chocked full of personality! Those eyes are so bright. What a handsome dog!! Those ear could be Aussie ears - just not very well bred Aussie ears - prick ears are a "fault" for show, but oh so cute for the rest of us. Whatever he is - enjoy him!! He'll make a wonderful companion.

I have an Aussie (obviously, I guess), and he's just a joy. Smart, but sweet. Wanting to please me and be near me (yeah, total velcro). Will occasionally try to herd me to the refrigerator when he thinks it's dinner time (and no, I don't reward that behavior with dinner), but over all just the best dog.

    Another theory

He points. At squirrels and at birds. Well, his tail doesn't point, but his front foot lifts up and he focuses like crazy. And all those spots! So maybe he's part pointer. Whatever, he's alot of fun and good company.

What a great looking dog. Such an adorable face.

Chloe tends to pull on her leash when she sees a squirrel or the resident woodchuck. She wants at 'em so badly.

I hope you and Shiloh have many happy years together.
