I don't have the foggiest on where to put this thread but it sort of has to do with cycling..
I'm catching up on all the events I wanted to do last summer(but couldn't due to injuries) this summer
. Weeeeee. Last weekend it was an MTB 12hr & this one was a 1.6km open water swim. I spotted the flyer for this event back in October & thought "hmmmmm...I wonder if i can do it? Is it too far?" but then decided to ignore the thoughts and signed up.
I've always wanted to do open water swims but have never felt comfortable in the ocean for some reason. I wanted to show myself that they're not that bad & I can get from A-B without panicking! Past experiences in tri's have not been great & needed something to change my view.
Today was a beautiful day for this swim. 28C,not a cloud in the sky, calm seas & clear water. Main thought for the day-are there any stingers??? (nope, the faster swimmers encountered them
)
I had a great time & did the swim in 46min but i wasn't last. I had a really hard time sighting-I couldn't see the red bouys for the life of me.(Yes i have prescription goggles
) I just followed other feet or swimmers in close proximity which helped more than sighting things way ahead. I did freestyle for the whole way, didn't feel slow nor did i panic. Well ok, i sort of had a
thought when I saw a stingray below me but it disappeared quickly.
Great fun & will do another 1.6km ocean swim next weekendNo photos next time as it's too early in the morning for Ian
