Hey, X. I remember your car story. Totally hate that! We had a lemon in a very expensive van - Toyota Sienna. One of the issues we had is that *all* of the rear lights would randomly not work with no warning.

So yesterday on the lower mainland, 2 children were killed and 3 others are in critical condition. They were driving a Sienna in the HOV lane and had to stop because of smoke in the car. Not sure what went wrong mechanically, but I would not be surprised if the woman driving dutifully put on her hazards and believed they were working. The person in the car that hit her from behind and the other car that hit them did not have serious injuries, and they haven't commented about whether there may have been flashing lights or not. I just have a hunch. And it's exactly the reason I refused to drive the van until we had every single electrical system replaced in the car. I"m sending some serious butterflies to that family. What a shame! And I hope they sue Toyota for it!

    Hugs and butterflies,
    ~T~

Yup, that's why we drive a Mazda now.

Dishwasher repairman comes this morning. I hope it's not a costly visit.

And off to work to get as much done as I can. I'm off tomorrow for 2 days to go see Metallica in Vancouver. Not feeling terribly festive about it, but it will be fun, I'm sure.

Something to ponder, it is chilly out and the building management is running the air conditioner not the heater. It is no wonder I constantly get colds here.

LBTC...so sorry to hear the news about DH and job...not a good time of year or w/ the economy. Best of luck for something new and better!

AA...just getting over my 3rd cold of season. Although might might be due to my schedule and travel. I am off to fly the friendly skies AGAIN on Thursday...going to cooler/dryer weather. I plan to take my Airboren adn Emergen-C! Not getting another darn cold. Luckily, my office is pretty much draft free!

Now if I could just get focused on work! Having some stress and anxiety over the holdidays, the upcoming trip and my X-mas party the weekend afer I return. The house is NO WHERE near ready...the cooking is the easy part!

Anyone else having a bad X-mas shopping season. I need to give it all up and just donate to charity in everyone's name!

Katluvr that's what i keep telling people to do for me. I don't mind tiny trinkets (or chocolate) but i just don't need anything, and lots of other people all over the world do!

DH and I agreed to only give each other a handful of small items this year- socks or gloves, and maybe gourmet treats like cheese or chocolate that we can eat up. I told my daughters to please not buy us any gifts, and not to expect anything but a couple of small things this year.
I did find a wonderful gift last week though- at the farmer's market, our local alpaca farm was selling beautiful 100% alpaca gloves for $10 a pair. (!!!) Soft and warm, great as glove liners too. I got 3 pairs for my 3 girls and a pair for DH for Christmas. Got to feel good about buying locally too.

I mailed a check yesterday to our local abandoned/abused cat rescue organization, knowing that their donations must be seriously falling off about now.
It's time to start doing things a little differently.

Is there such a thing as e-caffine? I need some.
My flight got back at 11:00 - just fine. But due to fog, the FAA had closed LAX , Long beach, and San diego and diverted all the flight to ontario. My shuttle was "too buzy" with the diverts to take me home, and at 12:45 I got a taxi. Then I had Physical Therapy at 6AM
Could be worse, A fight from El Salvador landed at midnight and they did'nt get off the plane till 6 due to a lack of customs inspectors.

Oooh...nothing like a seriously extended plane flight, Fredwina. Where were you coming from? And I think I also got about 10 hours of sleep total for last week, not sure why.

For anyone who needs to know, the Greek and Roman galleries at the Met are full of spectacular stuff (although you have to wonder exactly how they got that stuff). The new Museum of Art and Design is FABULOUS! Has all my textile art heroes in it--Kay Sekimachi, Mary Lee Hu, Lenore Tawney, Rebecca Bluestone--and I acquired a bunch of NEW craftsmen to love as well. Will post some pictures if I can and you all are interested, and you can also google them to see their stuff. Boyoboy. Then we went to MOMA as well. My feet hurt. I got to buy roast chestnuts on the street, which I love passionately. Got to see the Christmas lights at Rockefeller Plaza and the Saks building and windows. I do love NYC.
"My predominant feeling is one of gratitude. I have loved and been loved;I have been given much and I have given something in return...Above all, I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and an adventure." O. Sacks

Lisa- I love Alpaca wool, that is one great gift you got there.

Fred- ICK. That is all I can say!

This year we are going much smaller on gifts as well. We always are pretty frugal and that makes us be creative. I am making everyone homemade sweets box to go with their individual gifts. My wonderful (at least I am told) iced Christmas cookies, cookies in cream fudge and maybe some truffles or homemade candy will await them.

you went to Manhattan? WOW, how cool was that!
I think i beat you on the chestnuts thing though. When I was in Italy, they were selling GIANT MUTANT chestnuts, twice the size at least, like plums!
they called them marons glace (sp?) My hosts were not planning to buy chestnuts but i was so boggled by them that they did. and for 5 euros we got 8 nuts that filled a bag!

I was coming from St. Louis via Denver. Both flights were fine, it was getting from the airport to home was the problems - Maybe I should drive next time.
